But friends-locking is your friend! Ha, okay, seriously though--I get it. :)
You know what's funny though? I'm more private in RL. I've had friends/coworkers (as in people I socialized with outside of work) who knew me for years without even knowing I was bi, or knowing pretty much anything about my family, etc. With one, I dated another mutual friend of ours, and she didn't even know until wayyyy later. My history with online friendships is different than yours though--like that's how I met Jen, for instance, before she moved her Pennsylvanian ass across the country & we became roommates. Hee. And I think for me it makes more sense too because written communication has always been the most effective/comfortable method, even though I still like face-to-face interactions, but yeah. It probably largely depends on your personality.
Dude, facebook is the worst. Even once you delete your account, they still own all your info! It's fascinating to observe people's behavior on there in a digital ethnography sorta way though, heh (I wish M. Wesch would do a study of it like he did with his anthro class on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPAO-lZ4_hU)). But I got rid of mine months ago. It just kept bugging me all the time. Soooo many stupid opinions & misplaced apostrophes! Heh. FOR REAL. Some friends are only meant for face-to-face interactions! Like, "Please don't ever attempt writing again. Also, never discuss politics with me. YOU ARE DUMB. P.S. Wanna go to a movie?" Haha.
