rachg82: (Booth/Bones cheek kiss)
Thanks so much to everyone for all the calming words & bits of advice after my last post. I called around a bit and though I don't qualify for a free screening in my state (I called. Remember, I don't have a GP I can see anymore, because I owe that hospital money--a few hundred dollars--and I don't have insurance/a bunch of dough to go get a brand new one from any ole place, especially considering they usually charge anywhere from $60-$200 per visit around here. No joke. And that wouldn't even include any possible tests/lab work, etc), I was able to get info on a bunch of other resources, and the people I talked to were super nice. Well, one guy at a fancy schmancy naturopathic clinic was just meh, but he was expensive so that's not really a surprise (seriously, he was like, "If all you need is a breast exam, go ahead & come on in & it'll just be fifty dollars." Oh, just? For real, he said it like that would be a favor, knowing I was uninsured/low income. Fifty bucks). The important thing though is that everyone else was helpful, and there ARE cheaper options. The National College of Natural Medicine in Portland apparently has a bunch of community clinics serving broke-ass folk like me, and I was able to make an appointment for next Tuesday for $20 (she said I'd normally qualify for $30 visits, but this appt will be with a med student/intern or something--they're cheaper). Also, their appointments are an hour long (so I can talk to them about my migraines if I want), and I remember a friend of mine went to the same location once & raved about them. They do western medicine + eastern, and they're part of the same school that managed the acupuncture place I used to go to back in '03. That was one of their Classical Chinese joints though, so the cost was like $60 even with a student discount. If I get acupuncture at this community clinic branch, it's only $20-$30 per my income, just like a doctor visit. AMAZING.

Also, they're by Burnside, so if I want I can bring my camera and finally take care of [livejournal.com profile] keenai's photo meme request (to get a pic of Voodoo Doughnut & an actual morsel o' manna from them, which in my case will fo' sho' be the Old Dirty Bastard since that's my shiz 4 liiife, son. Apparently that location has been under renovation this month though, so I may get cockblocked by that. We shall see). P.S. For those of you who are like, "WTF is this donut place you keep rambling about?", check out this short documentary. Fun, fun.

On top of that, while looking this stuff up I decided to also search for the cheap Yoga classes I'd been told about a while back on Facebook. It turns out there's a bunch of options for that too. I couldn't find the exact website my friend linked to before, but seriously, just look at that site. So many choices. I can go to a free Yoga 101 class if I don't mind trekking to the east side, and I can stay on the west side & do a $5 drop in class if I want. That site also has some kind of counseling/meditation/Buddhism dealio too, it looks like, though it doesn't list the cost of that. Still, CHEAP/FREE YOGA. Holla. Gonna def look into it. Damn't, sometimes I love this city.

In other news, I've been making more headway with my fic. I've got about 1,570~ish words now. Ready to keep on truckin'. Woo.

Now if only I could get so motivated to clean my bedroom/take my pants to the cleaners/do laundry/send that call center my resume/go for a woodsy walk again/five million other things. Oh, well. One thing at a time, right? At least I paid some bills last night, one of which was overdue & stressing me out. And I looked up the yoga stuff & all that, which I've been meaning to do for a while. So, hey.

Anyway, that's it for now. For my Vid of the Day, enjoy a pretty song:
