rachg82: vmars school (vmars school)
So it looks like I'm going to be crossposting from dreamwidth for the foreseeable future, because I really cannot tolerate LJ's new update page. Not only are the visual & functional changes frustratingly distracting for me, but something about the new setup actually hurts my eyes. And I *had* been switching back to the old version when I posted until now, so these issues weren't affecting me yet, but last night I found out that they've disabled that option. (Way to listen to your customer base as always, LJ!) Unless pigs fly & they reverse their decision--or users come up with a work-around--I'll be crossposting, since at least DW's update page is almost identical to what I was already used to.

I'm dreading the same thing happening to my friends page though. I'm sure they won't let me stay on the old version of that much longer either (where I can still view entries in my own style), and the active part of my flist is mostly only posting on LJ at this point--not DW--and that includes comms. I wish I could just view all my friends' entries from LJ on dreamwidth too, or be able to transport everyone over here with me in one fell swoop. Ugh. FU, change!

Seriously though, if they force the new friends page down our throats too? I'm gonna be begging all of you to migrate with me. Just a heads-up.

Okay, moving on to other things now:

-[personal profile] keypike gave me 5 questions to answer for a meme that's been going around, so here's where I do that. cut for memeosity )

-I bought myself a new pair of earrings this week. pic )

-Random, but it's been a while since I shared funny bus stories with you guys, so…

Best thing I overheard on the bus this week:

Passenger 1: "So what are you doing for your birthday?"
Passenger 2: "Fire-dancing and a potluck."

Of course! What else would you be doing on a Sunday afternoon in Portland? I also loved the exchange about the "ground score" that same girl found while cleaning up after some outdoor concert -- a bottle of ~visine~ which she pocketed & later used on her eyes, only to find out it was actually filled with a hallucinogen. Whoops!

-My whole group was absent from lab this week (it was Valentine's Day, so I'm guessing they were out around the town, whipping passers-by with leather thongs), so I got partnered up with a different girl (whose group was also missing). We used microscopes again, but this time it was way less stressful because of how helpful she was. I wish she were my normal partner.

-I had forgotten Southland was coming back this week, so that was a happy surprise. No real deep thoughts to give on the ep, though, except that I love Lydia & Cooper as much as always, and Sammy made me cry at the end with that old lady.

-I was really unhappy with this week's episode of Bones. There were a few moments I liked, but overall I have to say I thought it was awful. Obviously, it's not the first episode I'd put in that category, but I was looking forward to this one, hoping it would show that they could still pull off something great, especially since this story idea had so much potential imo.

And I don't even want to get into all the reasons why it rubbed me the wrong way right now, because it just saddens me, & because some of the issues aren't exclusive to this episode itself, so it could turn into a long post. But my frustration & disappointment here feels different somehow than in the past (at least since that horrible foot doctor ep in s6, anyway, or the away-in-a-manger labor scene last year), like maybe it's the straw that broke the camel's back. This show has been so important to me & such a big part of my life since I first started watching in 2007, and I haven't wanted to give up on it. I'm debating whether I should now though. I don't know; it's hard. Part of me wants to give it one more chance to get it right, keep watching until spoiler for future plotline here ), so I can see how well they handle that. There are still moments each week that make me laugh, too. But I'm not sure I can tolerate everything that's bothering me about the writing, acting, and direction anymore. Ugh. See, this is what happens when series run past their prime. It's the worst. I think maybe I'll continue to record the show, but hold off on watching it each week until I see the reviews online, and then I can decide whether it's worth it. And wait for the above-mentioned plotline to take place, too, so I can see whether this was merely another one of their inconsistent low moments (albeit a major one, for me) or a true sign that it's beyond the point of no return.

-I don't have a twitter myself, so I don't really keep up with what celebs are saying there; however, I do sometimes browse tumblr tags, and one of them led me to this tweet. I know it's unlikely at this point, but weirder things have happened in Hollywood. So do me a solid & send an email to VERONICAMARSMOVIE@WARNERBROS.COM, even if you never cared about the show. I JUST WANT MY REUNION FANTASIES TO COME TRUE. (I still have hopes that we'll get an Arrested Development movie before my 90th birthday, so I am optimistic SOMETIMES. Heh. Also: HOW DID I NOT KNOW NETFLIX WAS GOING TO RUN A FOURTH SEASON OF THE SHOW?! Seriously, people, you need to keep me in the loop on these things!)

All right, I need to go get some homework done so I can mainline the season 1 Breaking Bad DVDs I checked out from my school's library this week. Kinda pumped, ngl. Vince Gilligan and I go way back (in that I loved his episodes on XF, hee).

For my Vid of the Day, I'm going to share something most of you are probably already familiar with, but which I'd never seen until a few days ago (see above, re: constantly being out of the loop). Oh, I'd seen this gif, mind you:

…but I didn't know the context of it. I actually thought it was some Ellen skit with Portia or something, haha. Then this week I was marathoning interviews on YouTube of Kristen Bell (who is just behind Lauren Graham for me at this point as far as fave interviewees go, at least on Craig Ferguson -- I haven't gone through Bell's Ellen vids yet aside from the one below), and I came across this clip, and it had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt. "HE'S COMING FOR THE PARTY?!" Hahahaha.
