I've gotten very lazy about work shoes, so I wear flats all the time. I either buy pants that are my inseam length or get them hemmed. The latter costs money and I generally don't like doing it, but I don't see myself ever going back to heels, so I consider it an investment and worth doing.
I also went through a very long period where I only wore dresses to avoid this issue as well.
