Drive-by update (and meme)

Okay, so a few quick things. Number one: I quit my job last week. Number two: I now have a new job. It's only a temp gig (at least for now), but it's still a job, and pays ten dollars an hour (whereas the last one paid nine). And I know you guys will want more details than that, but if I go into it too much, I'll be here forever. Knowing how longwinded I am, and all. But I promise to explain more thoroughly soon. For tonight, I just wanted to at least check in, and give like a cliff's notes version. Basically I was just really tired of the job I had, wasn't making enough money, and really wanted a change. And then flipped out one day and spontaneously decided to up and quit, with like no notice. Which I know is very irresponsible and stupid, and realized that like two seconds after I did it. But it was a heat-of-the-moment decision. And one based also on the fact that I kept feeling really stressed out and sick all the time, and kept missing work constantly, and couldn't stand to go back after missing again. So, yeah. Again, I'll try to explain better, in my next entry. But what's done is done now, and at least I found something else right away, and one that even pays better. And it's not far away, either. Kind of boring and tedious (I'm a file clerk), but I only just had my first day today, and am hoping they find other tasks for me to do as time goes on, to make the job more interesting. We'll see. Whatever happens though, it's just a temp job, so I don't have to stay permanently if I don't want to. At least it gives me money for now, and some experience again in an office, which is what I need if I want to find something else in that area after this one ends. So if nothing else, I can use it on my resume.
Anyway, that's pretty much it for tonight, because I need to get to bed. I work again tomorrow (it's full time, monday-friday), and then tomorrow night will go over to my sister's to watch my nephew all weekend, while she and my brother in law go out of town. First time she's ever left him with anyone that long, actually. It'll probably be exhausting, but fun, so I'm looking forward to it.
Before I go though, I wanted to also do that tv meme thing
sonneta posted a while back. But I'll put that in a cut:
The story: A supernatural glitch in your DVR occurs. At first you panic, hitting lots of random buttons on your remote control, but then are RELIEVED to discover that no, your entire series recording of Golden Girls has not been deleted! But then, just as things appear to be back to normal, there's a puff of smoke, and a fairy appears! You have apparently freed the TV fairy from a televised hell in which she was made to watch endless reruns of Are You Hot?, and as fairies tend to be when freed, she is very grateful and wants to grant you magic wishes.
Now, the fairy has only TV-related powerz, and so she offers you the chance to go back in time and retroactively CHANGE the history of your favorite TV shows with 3.5 wishes!
You can go back in time and erase from the fabric of TV history THREE individual episodes of any TV show you want! The rest of the series(es) will not be altered. What do you choose?
1. Hmm, maybe "This Is Not Happening" from the X Files, first. Although it's impossible to remove this episode, without the following ones being altered, but I don't care. Why couldn't Mulder have just come back alive? Or near-dead, and then rocked a coma for a while, like Scully did? Come on. The whole "he's dead. . .or IS HE?!" was taking it a little far.
2. Keeping it on the X Files, the next one will be "William," because it made my soul cry. Even though it was actually one of the only well-done episodes that season. So that makes me hesitate to delete it. I'd compromise if I could keep the episode but have it end differently. Like with Reyes convincing Scully to keep him.
3. Third I'd take away "The Truth" (still X Files here), which is sort of cheating because it's a two-parter, but shh. And okay, I'd keep parts of the ep, like the Mulder/Scully kiss and cuddle action, but the rest was pretty much retarded. Although the attorney who was all hating on Scully for her "love child" was pretty funny. Heh. But still, the finale of that series should've been so much more epic and kick-ass than that. Trash it!
You can go back in time and revive ONE unfairly cancelled television show and return it to the annals of TV history! ** CHOOSE WISELY, because if you attempt to revive more than one show, the wish will backfire and you'll instead be treated to a whole bunch of crappy made-for-TV "reunion" movies full of replacement actors.
Totally "My So-Called Life." I miss that show. Although I will say "Freaks and Geeks" (which I watched on DVD with Jen and Kevin last year) was a pretty good show, and deserved a longer run. But I'll follow the warning here, and just pick one.
To balance out the historical TV viewing schedule, you now have the power to retroactively CANCEL, at any point during the series, any one show! Alternately, you can wield your destructive might and DELETE one whole entire series from ever having been made.
Ooh, tough one. Maybe "Access Hollywood," so that when I'm at my sister's and seven o'clock rolls around she has no excuse but to let me watch "Jeopardy"? Heh.
LIFE AND DEATH! You can now bring ONE character back from the dead... and, to restore the balance, you must also kill off a character! They don't have to be from the same fandom.
Life: Anya, on Buffy! You can't just kill off my Anya like that. It's like communism. (gotta appreciate the Anya-ism, people) Although I understand how it was supposed to be meaningful and all that, and show how she'd grown as a human that she was willing to risk her life to save others, and etc. But I liked her, and so I'm bringing her back. So, there.
Death: Hmm, Robin, on Buffy? I know, I'm mean. But instead of Anya dying, it could've been him. And he could've been all like "the mission is all that matters" as he died. See, with the drama? Could've been good. Plus with Spike dying (ignoring that he comes back on Angel of course), and then Robin not being around, that leaves no one else to distract Buffy and Faith from each other. Cue slashiness! Hee.
Bonus trade off: you can delete a single scene, relationship pairing or plot arc from any series that gave you hives... AND you can plug in any one [scene, pairing, plot arc] that you never got to see!
Delete: Angel and Cordy getting hearts and flowers with each other, on "Angel". I liked them getting closer, but would've liked if it had stayed a just-friends thing, I think.
Insert: Any scenes showing more of the backstory of Mulder and Scully actually getting intimate for the first time, on XF. They totally glossed over it, and it was so irritating. I mean come on, I know the show was all about ambiguities and leaving you to fill in blanks, but please. If you're not going to show us it going down, then at least tell us WHEN it happened, like in what part of what season, and how. Give us something more than a vague flashback that doesn't even specify a time-period or answer any questions hardly. Argh. (I like how I still get riled up about this, hee)
Should Totally Have Happened Plot Arc:
I'd have enjoyed it if "Buffy" (the show) had explored Buffy and Faith's relationship more, in season 7. More scenes between just the two of them, talking. They came close with them talking over the not!scythe (what? It's not a scythe!), but I wanted more. And of course a little more slashy subtext wouldn't have hurt. Heh. I have no shame.
