So, remember how I said in my last entry that I was going to also update about babysitting last weekend and then my thoughts on So You Think You Can Dance this season? Right, so here's where I do at least half of that. And also comment on the next couple episodes of BSG season 4 that I watched last night ("He That Believeth In Me," and "Six of One").

That is if I can pool my thoughts together enough to write, of course. It's so freaking hot in this apartment right now, it's like my brain is melting. The temp is finally dipping below the '90s now, but seriously? With the lack of AC in here? It's still too effing hot. I think I'm going to need about a week straight of good ol' fashioned Portland rain to regain higher brain functions, for reals.

Anyway, so onto the entry. For your convenience, here are the topics for today (so you can decide if you don't care to read, heh. But YOU SHOULD CARE because I'm eternally interesting like that):

1. My goodbye to Melissa and Ade on So You Think You Can Dance and my vote for who I now want to win, complete with video clips (because I loves me some YouTube). Check 'em out quick before Dickhole Dick Clark productions removes them from the site for copyright infringement (Which, God, so annoying! Like, hello, the only nerds looking up these vids on YouTube are the ones who also watch the show on tv ---> a.k.a obsessed fans. You're still going to get money from us, don't worry!)

Aaaaaand this topic comes complete with a bonus round: A couple links to X-Files vidders, because I'm all about the random.

2. My thoughts on the first two episodes of Battlestar-muthafuckinawesome-Galactica, season 4, including me officially signing on as a Roslin/Adama shipper.

(also: thoughts on my imaginary polygamous relationship with BSG, XF, and Bones. What, Brennan wouldn't judge me!)

As for babysitting, that will have to wait for next time, because this entry is hella full by itself. I will at least take the time though to say how my 11 month old niece started trying to walk around the living room this week, and now gets mad everytime she can't do it. Hee.

Oooh, and before I get into everything else? One random work-related tidbit for you all. Yesterday I made a sale of over 5 grand. Bear in mind an average sale there is around $400. Apparently it was the 14th biggest sale the department ever had (which means in the last 10 years). I RULE. Haha. Too bad it was an out of nowhere sale that totally fell into my lap though. But the customer did call me directly, because they remembered me from a previous incident. So! Not totally random. But I was still like "you wanna buy HOW many boxes of ink? I love you."

So, first things first. Anyone who recognized "I just wanna dance!" from the movie "Dazed and Confused" wins a cookie. And is awesome. I love that movie, yo. My sister and I still quote it to this day. (it's pretty much the reason she and I had crushes on Matthew McConahoweveryouspellit back in the day) Plus it's appropriate for my first topic, which is So You Think You Can Dance!

I wasn't surprised that Melissa went home last week, because I actually was betting she'd make it to the final six and then go home. So I was right on with that. But in the beginning I actually thought Ade might make it to the final 4, if not the final 2 (I figured it'd be him and Kayla). Then somewhere along the way both he and Melissa started fading a little, and I'm not sure if that was just because part of their magic was the chemistry between them and then that got lost when they were partnered with new people, or what. But nevertheless they were still my favorite pairing of the season overall, even if I had some other individual faves who occasionally passed them by depending on the routines that week. (for instance Kayla, for the most part. But I also had love for Janette and Brandon with their hot-ass tango recently, and then Jeanine with the contemporary piece she and Jason did and the couple hip-hop routines she did with Brandon and Ade).

And also, P.S: Melissa? Call me. C'mon, your husband won't mind! Hee. Yeah, I don't know what it is about her, but she gives my heart squishy feelings.

Anywhoozle, without further ado, I give you my goodbye to Melissa and Ade in the form of dancey vids, to be followed by my pick for the winner (hint hint, I mentioned her above). Keep in mind this is not an exclusive list of my favorite dances from them this season, because A. this post is going to be long enough as is, and B. some of the clips for other dances I'd pick on YouTube are being douches and don't play well. So that's that.

1. The Rumba. This dance makes me think dirty thoughts. Is that wrong? And no, it's not a technically perfect rumba by any means. But considering it's something they haven't done before (he's contemporary and she's a classically trained ballerina), I give mad props. And, again, it's hot. Do you need more? I know I don't.

2. The Pas De Deux. So lovely. Makes me wish I'd grown up to be a ballerina. Thanks for taking me out of those ballet classes, Mom! Just because they cost money, whatever! Haha. Actually I might have quit because I was tired of it or something, who knows. I can't remember anymore. I know I loved my tutu, though!

3. The Breast Cancer Routine. This one's actually not all that technically difficult (I mean compared to other dances on the show), but the choreography and performance were both really touching in my opinion.

Plus that dance is done to one my fave songs from way back, which apparently is a perfect cancer song because it's also used in one of my favorite Mulder/Scully cancer-arc vids (which can be found here). That vidder is fantastic, btw. Between Erock's vids on that site, and LyleXF's vids on youtube (linky link), you'll find some of the best XF vids out there. Especially LyleXF, her (or his?) vids kill me dead they are so good.

And, yes, I did just take a leap from So You Think You Can Dance to X-Files music videos, because my brain is a mad fandom-filled place of crazy.

As far as who I want to win now that Melissa and Ade are gone? Kayla would be my #1 pick, honestly. But I kind of have the feeling she won't win despite what a wonderful dancer she is, because I think people don't find her personality attractive enough. And the polar opposite of that is also the only reason I think Evan is still there. Like I've written here before, I think he's good enough at what he does and is entertaining. But is it so spectacular that he deserves to win when he isn't versatile enough to master other styles? No. At least not as far as I'm concerned anyway.

Now, if Kayla doesn't win, I think I'd also be satisifed to see Brandon win at this point. After him, I'd go for Jeanine. But I reserve the right to change my preferences after the finale tomorrow night, just in case Kayla fails massively and one of the others goes out there and kicks a whole mess of ass or something.

But anyway, as promised here are two of my examples for why I want Kayla to win. Again, this is not even remotely a complete list of my favorite dances from her. I think she's just been ace this whole season, so if I really wanted to do a list like that then I'd probably have a good five or so videos posted here at least.

1. The Addiction Piece (Kayla and Kupono). This dance (along with the cancer one above) gave me chills. God knows I've been surrounded by enough family and friends whose lives have been torn up by addiction to be moved by something like this, and I thought they did a really impressive job with it. The expressions on their faces are so intense, and they absolutely 100% commit to the performance.

(note: this vid takes about 15 seconds to kick in, so give it a moment to start)

(P.S. I love, love, love this song. I think I listened to it and "Winter Song" about ten billion times last December.)

2. Kayla and Brandon's contemporary piece last week. This one is simple, but I love it. The fluid movement and lines and emotion and yeah. Perfect.

AND, SCENE.

I hope you've all enjoyed my epic SYTYCD vidspamming. Just be glad I don't do an entry posting my favorite dances from each season, because you know I've been watching since day one (season 2 would have to be an entry all by itself). I even remember the first host and everything. Which reminds me of another thing I need to say regarding this show:

DEAR CAT DEELEY, NEVER LEAVE ME.

Love, Rachael.

For serious, will someone please make me a fanvid of nothing but Cat Deeley's irresistible adorableness? Because it's begging to me made, people. Begging!

Now, moving right along now to topic #2: Battlestar-muthafuckin' awesomesauce-Galactica.

Words do not describe the love, my pretties. I will admit the first episode started a little wonky though, just somehow off feeling. But then when Baltar made the observation regarding the song "All Along the Watchtower"--how it starts off chaotic and then blooms into a melody that makes sense--it clicked for me that the season itself was starting like that. Since the song is clearly a large symbolic thing at the end of the last season, I don't think that's a stretch. So then I liked the weird feeling of the first episode better with that in mind. It kind of also fits how the final 4 cylons revealed in the 3rd season finale are feeling after finding out what they are, and how you as the viewer are feeling after that same revelation.

I just wish I hadn't already been totally spoiled on who those 4 cylons were before this. Thanks a lot, random youtube commenter! I'm just hoping what I think I saw in that comment before looking away frantically (heh, and I'm usually such a spoiler whore too!) isn't true as far as who the actual real 5th and final cylon is. I want to be surprised by that, and I'm living in denial until proven otherwise that the surprise isn't already ruined.

And for what it's worth, while writing about this show I'm purposely being somewhat vague so as not to completely ruin huge plotlines for any of you reading this who haven't already watched the show. Because, I mean, while I figure anyone reading this isn't 100% averse to being spoiled on some stuff, there's still some things I wouldn't want to ruin for people even if they say they don't care. Because I'm considerate like that!

Of course there's still going to be some spoilers here, though. That just can't be avoided. I'll just try to avoid posting the massively huge ones without disclaimers, like "gee, who are the people who end up being cylons? Why don't I announce it randomly in a comment about season 2?" Sheesh. *is still bitter*

Anyway. Back to the point. Here's a list of things I loved about episodes 1 and 2 of the 4th season:

-Katee Sackhoff's acting. Starbuck's being totally fucking batshit crazy, but she's really selling it. (Also, I'd like to pimp the fact that my sister totally went to high school with her, haha. And was friends with her brother. HOW WEIRD IS THAT? Everytime I mention the show to her she laughs, because it's so bizarre to her.)

-"And for frak's sake, don't shoot the gods-damned President." Hee. I love you, Tigh. He was great in both these episodes, actually.

-Lee's send-off. Not even gonna lie, totally teared up at the end with everyone saluting him. That was really lovely. Especially the exchange between him and Dualla.

-Roslin calling Adama "Admiral Atheist." Ha! That made me laugh out loud.

-Six being all fucking bad-ass against the fellow cylons. Go Six! This is why you are my favorite cylon. Yeah, yeah, you snapped an infant's head in your first scene on the show, and totally helped massacre the human race, but you are so damn full of pwn-age that those things don't even matter. Heh.

-Baltar talking to Head Baltar. !!! Oh my God, I was dying during this scene. DYING. That was freaking hilarious. I already flipped when Caprica Six started seeing Baltar in her head (how perfect is that, after he kept seeing her for all that time?), but then now he's going to see himself too? Haha. What a fucking mind-fuck, I love it. Not to mention the simple and pure joy of seeing Baltar literally talk to himself. I love when he's like "oh, good point" to his alter ego. Hahaha. *dies*

-And lastly (insert drum-roll here), my favorite part of the first two eppies is this:

ROSLIN AND ADAMA = OMGTRUELOVE4EVA.

No joke, I already knew I shipped them and enjoyed their scenes together, but didn't realize how much until the following things took place:

A. I saw a spoilery clip in one of the previews for season 4.5 (this was a promo on the DVDs for season 4.0, so it can't count as me spoiling anyone really, right?) showing Adama laying a big, fat old smoocharoo on Roslin. Please tell me it's not a fake-out, because I literally squealed and jumped off my couch. Ha. And yes, I know they had a little kiss once before, but it was just a tiny, chaste one. And the kiss in that preview--while not exactly a "let's make with the sexytimes, bow chica bow wow" kiss--looked pretty "I love you, you love me, let's make out and cause everyone to go awwwww." I'll take it!

B. "Is she still staying in your quarters?" Dude. I heard that & was like "Excuse me, WHAT?" Did I miss the reason she was staying in his quarters? I don't think I could remember what caused it amidst all the flailing that question inspired 'round these parts. Hee hee. Okay, so it was because Colonial One got all blown up or something, right? Still. Still!

C. Starbuck calling Adama out on being a coward and the president's "wet nurse." So freaking harsh. And yet, wow. The look on his face made it pretty clear she wasn't just talking about him not standing up to Roslin in terms of leadership, but about his being afraid to come clean about his feelings for her.

D. Roslin and Adama's conversation in his quarters toward the end. That was so angsty, but delicious. I wanted to reach through the screen and hug Roslin. Man.

E. And possibly most of all: The fact that Adama has a picture of the two of them in his room. Which of course then got shot accidentally by Roslin. Ha. I seriously couldn't get over that, though. He has a picture of them! SO SWEET! I can't take it.

Of course I'm still not fully recovered from the sweetness of their scene together last season where they talked about their time on New Caprica when she wore that pretty red dress and etc. Gaaaaaah, I *heart* them so much.

Sooooooo, yeah. That enough rambling for everyone? Hence my subject heading for today, because TV is clearly my soul-mate. And if it were legal to marry a tv show, Battlestar Galactica would pretty much be my newest spouse, all shiny and pretty and new. Except X-Files would totes own the coveted 1st Wife status, and would probably look down on Bones and Battlestar Galactica like "whatever, just because it's been a few years, you're all passing me by for these young 20 year-olds? And what the hell is with this So You Think You Can Dance nonsense? You're hooking up with reality shows now?! I thought we had something special!" And then I'd have to be like "No, baby, you know you're always #1 in my heart. But I love these new shows too. You know they'll never have what we had though! Remember the long walks on the beach, the hours of fanfic-reading, the yelling at Chris Carter?" And then I'd buy it flowers and we'd kiss and make up before probably inevitably getting interrupted by the Damn Bee. But that's a whole 'nother story. Hee.

THE END <--case in point that there's no graceful way to end a post this long except to collapse in a heap of fandom-inspired exhuastion.

Yes, yes you do! It is such a good show!

I just wish I'd gotten into it while it was still on the air. Here in Portland there was a theatre the fans would rent out every Friday night during its final season to watch the episodes, and that's when I was like "okay, clearly I need to watch this show." Ha. But it was pretty much already ending at that point, so I knew I wouldn't have time to catch up and understand what was going on.

I think every fandom should do that though, just as a matter of course. How much fun would it be to watch Bones every week in a theatre full of crazy fangirls? I know XF used to do it about once a year or so for the Scully Marathons, but those were never even remotely near where I lived, alas!
