I have some sage wisdom for everyone on my friends list today. Let's say you order a sandwich from Domino's, okay? You eat it, you enjoy it, you go to throw it out. Let's say your trash is full and it's late at night and you're being too lazy to take the garbage out. So you think to yourself, "I'll just close up the box and leave it on my counter for now."

STOP. DON'T DO IT.

You know why?

Because the next morning you'll awake to a conga line of ants sashaying through your kitchen, like "PAR-TAY!" I'm telling you, they had hats and streamers and everything. IT WAS NOT GOOD.

My neighbors probably thought I was in here getting stabbed to death, I screeched so loud.

I then promptly did my dishes and took out my garbage at full panicky freakout speed, and killed all that I saw, but that doesn't mean they're gone. Oh, no. They probably just went back to Ant Headquarters, where they could regroup and come back stronger than ever. I HATE ANTS.

Anyway, so now that I've taken deep breaths and gotten that out of the way, let's move on shall we?

I bring you today: "Five Random Reasons You Should Watch Battlestar Galactica,", complete with vidspamming. This is when you know your fan-status has reached critical mass, my friends. When you are looking up fanvids on YouTube and trying to convert people. Fanfic is probably right around the corner.

Note: This list is not all-inclusive, since if I tried to do that we'd be here all day and I know no one would have the time (or desire, heh) to watch all the vids I'd be embedding. But I tried to find a few vids that would give people a taste of the show, without uber-spoiling them on major stuff (i.e. no cylon-centric vid, since it's impossible to find one that wouldn't spoil the everloving crap out of new viewers). Hopefully I was successful.

In my quest I managed to spoil myself on a few major things though, and spent the next few minutes like "OhmyfrakkingGods, what the hell just happened to [insert major character's name here]! And [insert yet another major character's name here]?! Holy fucking fuckballs!" Heh. Not to mention the spoilage for Roslin and Adama in the final few episodes. I already knew some of what was going to go down between them, because of the lj posts I read from others while the show was ending, but seeing it? OH MY GOD. I don't think I'm going to be able to take it, seriously. The flailing and the tears, they are going to be massive. Prepare yourselves.

(and P.S. remember the other day when I mentioned how "This Woman's Work" was like the go-to song for anything to do with women and cancer? I found like three in my search having to do with Roslin. Haha. And that's not really a spoiler btw, because you're told she has terminal cancer right from the beginning of the show. So, there.)

But anyway (hee, I go on such tangents), onto the list!

1. First up, a fantastic trailer I found that gives newbies an introduction to the show's overall arc without spoiling them on things. Again, this is a seriously hard thing to do with this show, because there's insane shit that happens like every minute from the end of season 1 and on. Talking about it without spoiling people is like trying to talk in code. So, major props to this video. Also? The editing of the clips while Adama is giving his speech? Gives me chills. "You are the guardians of the fleet." Tear!

2. The women, they kick ass. Again, does your show have HBICs in space? 'Cause mine does.

3. The characters. Their suffering, their triumpths. This is NOT just another sci-fi show. It is a character-driven drama that just happens to have a kick-ass sci-fi/action foundation, with an extra helping of political/social commentary thrown in. These are people you care about. You cry for them and you root for them. Watch and get a hint of what I mean:

4. Roslin/Adama. My love for them is reaching Mulder/Scully and Booth/Brennan proportions, in terms of becoming one of my favorite pairings of all time. I now have a trifecta for my shippy ways. Heh. Really though. Words just don't describe how I feel about these two and their Epic Space Love Story. They make my heart sing. They start out at odds with one another (the best ones do, don't they?), but slowly grow into trusted confidantes who are solidly loyal to one another. Their romance is pure, gentle, and lovely to watch grow. It is truly a grown up love story with no gimmicks, no contrived ways to get them together nor keep them apart (not that I don't enjoy those tactics sometimes, but it's nice to see a show that goes a different route for once). They're allowed to just be, and to develop at a slow pace that is rich, natural, and unbelievably sweet. I don't even know how else to describe them. There is just something so beautiful and ideal about them. They need each other, they love each other, and they are there for one another. Every touch between them, or smile between them, makes you want to just clutch your heart and swoon like a victorian maiden or something. Haha. But SERIOUSLY. Watching them get even closer in season 4 has been giving me a shipper heart attack like you wouldn't believe.

GAH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. *heart explodes*

And because I love them so, so much, they get two vids. They're special like that.

This first vid is short (hence why I'm justifying the two-vids thing, heh), but lovely. The song fits them perfectly, and it makes my heart ache. Love it, love it, love it.

For my second (and last) vid, I unfortunately have to use an external link because the vidder disabled embedding (I hate when people do that). This one is once again light on spoilers (no season 4 clips for instance), because I'm nice and considerate like that. Heh. I love this vid. It's another example of perfect song choice & editing for the two of them (plus it has more meat to it than the shorter one above). They are just so damn lovely. *cue dreamy shipper sigh*

Roslin and Adama. Why are you so perfect?

P.S. If there are any spoiler-whores reading this who are like "hey, maybe I wanted links to spoilery videos, Rachael. You ever think of that?" Well, just follow that link above then. You can then either browse through the favorites there or go straight to my playlists (which also have XF and Bones vids, btw). If you're specifically looking to get spoiled on the angsty deliciousness awaiting you between Roslin and Adama in the final season for instance, watch "Tears of an Angel." And then come join me in my weeping. Heh. I've got the tissues ready, and have had them ready since this season started. (also: "Viva La Vida," and "The Story So Far," are great as well, but couldn't be posted here due to their spoiler-tasticness.)

5. Finally, the music. Battlestar Galactica, just like the X Files did back in the day (with Mark Snow), has its own composer. The music on a show can really make the difference in my opinion between a scene that is good, and a scene that is great. For this show, it's no exception. Bear McCreary's scores are so outstanding. They're so good, I'll sit and listen to the soundtracks just for their own sake. Of course I played violin for years growing up, so I still have a soft spot for a good symphony piece, but still. The music on this show is fucking perfection.

So, there you have it, folks. A taste of the awesomeness of Battlestar Galactica. I promise you, while it occasionally has its boring episodes or imperfections, these videos I've posted are only a small peek into how great it is. And if the above wasn't enough for you, here's some examples of other things it has to offer: shit blowing up, hot cylon babes, epic space battles, lots of sex, and an entire world where papers have no corners, "frak" is a swear word, everyone believes in Greek mythology (unless your name is Baltar or you're a cylon, heh), and robots will kick your ass. What more do you need?

Now, for my next entry, prepare yourselves for the following ramblings:

1. Me squee-ing over the Bones promo I saw the other night. September, where are you? Why aren't you here yet?

2. Me bragging over being correct on who would win So You Think You Can Dance in my last post, and my thoughts on the finale.

3. Comments on the most recent episodes of Weeds and Battlestar Galactica that I watched this weekend.

I know you're all excited! Haha.

I thought you should know I'm giving Battlestar Galactica a try just because of this post.

So is starting at the very beginning the right place to start?

Ha, score! That's awesome.

I would say to start at the beginning, yeah, just so you can understand what's going on at the very least. Start with the miniseries (which aired before the pilot), and then go from there.

I really liked the first season (the miniseries and the finale especially), but I will say that the show really started kicking major ass for me in the second and third seasons. Still though, start at the beginning, because otherwise you'll be wicked confused and won't appreciate the big emotional stuff as much.

...but not a word was spoken, the church bells all were broken, and the three men I admire most, the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, they caught the last train for the coast....

OK, how sad is it that I'm pretty sure I have ALL the lyrics to that song memorized. Unintentionally. Wow.

OK going out now...Kev just got home. Will finish catching up on your posts tomorrow!

I'm pretty sure I know all the lyrics too. Heh. Didn't you say once that was one of your favorite songs?
