Live through this and you won't look back

Dudes, I am so proud of myself. Check the iconage. Yes, it's extremely simple & not super creative or anything. But! It is the result of the following two things:
1. Finding & downloading a free photo-editing software online (I lost the basic program that came with Windows due to virus-related good times). Why didn't I think of this sooner? I kept assuming I'd have to purchase something.
2. Finally using the smart part of my brain & figuring out why every icon I'd previously tried to upload was all wonky dimension-wise. (Hello, self! The pic just needs to be 100x100. I = slow). It is seriously sad how glee-faced I was when I figured that out and finally got it right. Not to mention when I was trying to make the image a perfect square and was like "oh yes, hold the shift button when you select it & then crop it! Yay!" SO EFFING SLOW. Ha.
So yes, I feel very self-sufficient now! Heh. Plus, even though I've technically uploaded an icon of my own before, this is the first time I've done one that actually involved adding text & being even vaguely creative. Obviously not extremely creative because it's not all fancy-schmancy like a lot of the other icons out there, but it's at least a start. And I kind of actually like the simplicity of it anyway. It fits the mood of the scene, which already carries so much emotion you don't really need to dress it up. And it completely sums up how I feel about that moment too, so there you go.
Anyway though. Heh. Enough rambling about icons. I've got lots on my plate for this entry, so let's get right to it. I'm majorly behind on all my tv-rambling right now and thus have several weeks of episodes to talk about in this entry. So sit back & get comfy. Heh. You might want to plan for bathroom breaks, trufax.
Fandom-Collisions
You guys know what I love? How my fandoms tend to all sort of collide & run into each other on a regular basis. First off, we all already know that there are about a kazillion X-Files fans in the Bones fandom, right? I mean really, I will find myself randomly seeing posts from fanfic authors I read at 15/16 years old (we're talking more than ten years ago, folks) on Bones comms all the time. It is such a damn trip. And then the other day I was surfing the ole' interwebz and came across the following two pieces of joy as well:
1. Dasha K., one of the first old-school XF fic authors I used to read back in the diz-ay, also now writes BSG fic in addition to XF fic (both of which you can find here). This makes me happy on multiple levels: one being that I love finding old XF peeps still kicking it around the internet--much in the way you might get sentimental seeing that a beloved store from your childhood is still in business after returning to your hometown--and two being that this means now I can read her BSG fic as well.
P.S. And for you X-Philes on my flist, here's where I can provide a couple recs for you: Dasha's "Momentary Lapses" series (which, seriously, you have no idea how many times I read that as a teenager, the perv that I was. Ha) and her "Increments" series. I haven't read the latter in a really long time, but I remember liking it.
2. X-Files-BSG crossover fic. Omg, so much cracky fun. Like, say, this one by
icedteainthebag for instance, which takes the prompt "Admiral Mulder/President Scully, give me the room" and runs with it. Seriously, rampant airlocking (Roslin would be so proud! Haha) + Manolo Blahniks in space + smutty sexytimes + Scully saying things like "Obliterate this naughty Cylon base star" = what more could you ask for?
And speaking of crack, can I just add that the comments to this post, which fyi comes with a spoiler warning per the fact that it's on a BSG series-finale related comm made me laugh so hard today I was literally crying? Like, honestly, TEARS. Streaming down my face. Scully & Roslin pwning the undead with brass knuckles to the tune of "Eye of the Tiger"? Michelle Obama with a chainsaw? And the fact that said post was then followed by this zombie-fighting cracktastic fanfic that killed me dead? God, THE WIN. It burns.
But I digress! Onto the next topic.
So You Think You Can Dance
Like I said above, I am crazy behind in my So You Think You Can Dance posting, but I'm gonna do my best to breeze through this without taking a hundred years (fat chance with me at the wheel):
-Bianca. I was a little sad to see her go. I certainly didn't harbor any illusions that she'd make it to the top 4 or something, but I wanted to at least see her make it further into the season than that. She'd worked so hard to get there, and you could tell she was really trying. I think making it into the top 20 gave her back some motivation & confidence in her dancing though, based on how defeated she seemed after not making it last year compared to how positive (albeit sad as well) she acted after being sent home this time.
-Mollee/Nathan. I'm ready to see them both go home, even though I'll admit their solos this week kicked major ass.
-Legacy.
keenai, I was so glad to see your hatred of him had lessened a little in one of your recent posts, as I have to admit I've kinda liked him since the beginning.[/sheepish] Heh. He's not even remotely the best dancer I've ever seen, but he just tries so damn hard that it's one of those "fake it til you make it" effects, I think. Plus, he just seems like such a damn sweetheart. Also? His Paso Doble routine? I think I might have to join Adam Shankman in being tempted to join that navy, ha.
-Speaking of Adam Shankman, I have to say that while I like him as a judge, I kind of miss the rotating guest judges a little too. They sort of spiced things up a little, and kept things interesting. It'd be nice if they could at least sometimes do that instead, and maybe like trade off from week to week or something (i.e. one week have him, the next week have a guest judge. You get the idea).
-The "fear" routine a few weeks back. I liked that one a lot, even though it borrowed a few moves from the "addiction" piece last season. Loved the moment at the end when she sort of steps down on him, like she's pushing down her fears.
-Channing & Victor in the "blackbird" piece. I really liked this one, and liked the music choice (so there, Shankman! Heh). I wasn't surprised to see Channing go this week, but I was disappointed. I thought you could see her listening to the judges & trying to imbue her solo with emotion, too. But too little, too late, you know? Dancers really need to pay attention to the whole "you have to have a memorable personality to win on this show" thing. I mean, Channing had a personality, sure, but it was way too understated for the general audience to care about.
-Travis' choreography. DUDE. Travis, thank you for filling that Mia Michaels-shaped hole in my heart, you wonderful little thing you. Seriously, this dance?
LOVE. First dance this season to give me chills. I feel like with this routine things have finally kicked in as up until now the season has just been okay, but nothing to really write home about. You know? Also, someone tell me I'm not the only one who's listened to this song about a billion times since hearing it on the show (hence the subject heading & song-choice today). SO gorgeous.
Bones
Okay, first off, plz to be explaining to me how I got three weeks behind in my Bones-postage. I AM SO OFF MY GAME HERE. This entry is going to be so effing long like whoa (horse). (What? Tell me you guys don't think that everytime someone says "whoa" now. Yeah, I thought so!)
The Tough Man in the Tender Chicken
-Sweets and the two sisters thing. "Oh no, it's all right!" Haha, Sweets.
-The animal cruelty plotline. I think it's good they didn't make Bones' character all Emily Deschanel-like here, because as much as I love her to death (and think she's actually super moderate & respectful acting whenever she talks about animal issues to non-vegans) it still would've made the whole thing way too preachy, which it was already coming a little close to bordering on, imo. I mean, not majorly so or anything, but at least a little bit. I'm thinking mostly of that scene where Angela was watching the vid about the beaks. It was like "OKAY, I GET IT. EATING MEAT IS MEAN & I SUCK FOR DOING IT. Now can I please go back to guiltily eating my chicken strips in peace? Thank you."
(to be clear though, I have mucho respect for both vegetarians and vegans. I just personally can't give up my meat. And um. . .yeah, that sounded extremely dirty. Heh.)
-Angela. I hate to say this, but I have to admit she's kind of bugging me a teeny bit lately. Not a lot, but a little. On the one hand, of course Angela would be the one to get all crazy about forking over money to save a cute animal, because that's just who she is. And yeah, who here hasn't wondered how she and Bones came to be friends? But still, I felt so bad for Brennan in that argument! That was seriously harsh, questioning how they're friends & just walking off like that, when it was over something so small. And I know some fans were questioning the continuity there, because they know Bones loved pigs in the past (and had a soft spot for dogs last season), but I thought it made sense. Just because she wanted a pig for a pet once doesn't necessarily mean she'd think saving one would warrant spending that much money based solely on a cute picture.
Either way though, I really wanted to hug Brennan after that conversation, because she was just standing there with this heartbroken little face, and you know she struggles so much to connect emotionally with others & probably had no idea what she did "wrong" there. ~Poor Bones.~ Of course if Angela does something nice for her in an upcoming ep, I'll probably forgive her instantly, but still. Heh. After she put Bones on the spot for money in that "Oh noes, Wendell might lose his internship" plotline a while back, she's been on notice for me. Watch it, Ange! You don't want to mess with my Bones. *is protective of fictional tv girlfriends*
(By the way, can I just interrupt this post to mention that my upstairs neighbor is doing some kind of Super Intense Acrobatics or something right now, to the point where my chair is literally vibrating with their every stomp? WHAT THE HELL. But anyway. Heh)
-BOOTH & BONES IN THE DINER. And yes, that had to be in all caps. HELLO, WITH THE HAND-HOLDING. And the "I would kill for you; I would die for you." AND THE HAND-HOLDING. Have I mentioned the hand-holding? I loved how the camera did this like shameless ~zoom in~ on their hands too, all "we're not even going to pretend to hide that we're doing this simply to drive you shippers crazy. Eat it up!" Ha. THANK YOU, HART HANSON, AND PLEASE CARRY ON.
The Dwarf in the Dirt
-First off, this:
Bones: "Why aren't you cracking-wise?"
Booth: "Why? Because it's not 1945."
Bones: "Shall I start making jokes?"
Booth: "Just let it flow naturally, okay Bones?"
Bones: "I've noticed in the past when you're grumpy, your mood tends to elevate when you tell me about it."
Booth: "I just had a bad day on the range."
Bones: "Is that a cowboy metaphor?"
HEE.
-Freudian shenanigans. This episode was full of 'em, seriously. "Can't bring his weapon to bear". . ."You just need more practice." *snickers* I was basically thinking "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID" on like a non-stop loop the entire time.
-"Like a gun." "Or a giant sword!. . .or a gun."<--hee! Mr. Nigel-Murray, you are totally growing on me.
-Fun with TV-Time, i.e. when Gordon Gordon referred to Booth's brain illness as having happened "last year." Ha. I love when tv shows do that. Like, guys, shouldn't it have been this year? But because it happened last season, even though it was in the spring & their seasons (weather-seasons, not tv-seasons) are in line with ours, suddenly it's last year. Heh. It amuses me.
-Brennan noticing Booth using a different hand & foot for things. Aw, she is so the concerned girlfriend!
-Sweets getting his feelings hurt, wanting to be Booth's friend. Once again, aw!
-Cam signing a million different things while talking to the intern. WTF was that all about, seriously? I started laughing once I noticed it, because I assumed it was going to lead to something, but then it never did. She just signed like three things right in a row for no apparent reason, it was so random.
-And while we're on the subject of Cam, how cute was she in this episode, outfit-wise? Very.
-Brennan and her use of colloquialisms, and "joshing around." Hee. Brennan, why are you so adorable? It's just too much for me sometimes, like really. Also at the end when she didn't know not to repeat her joke? She was just so pleased to have made Booth laugh, she couldn't help herself. GOD, SHE IS SO CUTE. *hugs her forever*
-"I can't imagine anything I wouldn't do to help him." Her faaaaaaace. And the way ED's eyes mist over instantly, and how she sort of turned away all suddenly when she realized her emotions were all over face, I can't taaaaaake iiiiit.
-"Real marksmen keep both eyes open when they shoot." First off? THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID. Haha. And secondly? Because I can't resist:

(tm AthenaDelphi)
Hee.
-When a man can't have the woman that he loves, he gets a bit crazy." How much of a girl does it make me that I flailed a little over that one? Like, "YES, BOOTH, GO CRAZY. AND THEN GRAB HER & KISS HER, YOU FOOL." Ha.
-Booth homesick for his dream. Aw, Booth. Don't be homesick for the failnale. Hee. No, but really, poor Booth. I know what they mean there, when you have a dream that makes you so happy, and then you wake up & it's gone and it leaves you feeling all sad. I hate that. I don't agree with Angela though that he fell in love with Brennan during the dream, and I don't think Gordon Gordon agreed either based on his non-answer & the little head-shake he gave. I stand by my opinion from my post-premiere entry that the dream was merely him truly facing his feelings--which I believe he was already aware of, but had always tried to turn away from & deny before--and seeing them expressed so clearly left him stunned & unable to find his emotional balance upon waking. As I said before, he's been stripped of some of his surface-level stuff, including his ability to ignore & deny his feelings for Brennan. The dream took his desires and put them BLAMMO right in his face, and made all those denials fall apart into tiny little pieces. Like Gordon Gordon told him at the end, he got a glimpse at another world, and it had a very obvious impact on him. But that doesn't mean he wasn't in love with her before that, because COME ON. He so was. What the hell, Angela. Even Sweets agrees with me here too, as he came to the conclusion they were both in love with one another in his book, which was written prior to the coma/dream situation.
-"We're not compatible." I'm not sure how I feel about this line coming from Booth. On one hand, I know what he means if you're just talking about a simple "he believes in love lasting forever, monogamy, one person for everyone" and Brennan doesn't, or at least says she doesn't (take your pick). And of course it could also just be one of the last vestiges of his denials struggling to live on and keep him from accepting what he wants. But I would hope underneath it all that he believes they are compatible, because when you strip away all the extraneous stuff I think they really are. I mean, Brennan may not believe in those things universally, but I think she'd believe in them for Booth. For the two of them. If he just gave her a reason to, and stopped talking about somedays & "everything happens eventually" etc, i.e. if he just jumped her ass basically. Heh. And fyi when I typed that my finger hit the wrong key at first & typed "humped her ass," which could also work. Haha. But seriously though, remember that scene in one of the early season eps (I'm 99% sure it was "Boy in the Bush") when Booth was saying how there are rules & she has to respect those to work with him, and she was basically like "well, how about this, if I can't respect those rules I can at least respect you." It's the same thing here. She may think monogomy is silly & irrational, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't want it with him if they finally got together, and same thing goes for her belief (read: fear) that love has to be something ephemeral. I relate to Brennan in that way, because I have similar doubts about love & relationships based on what I've experienced and seen, but that doesn't mean I don't want to be proven wrong & fall in love like everyone else.
But anyway, now that I've rambled about this point forever, we'll wrap it up by pointing out that Booth crossed his arms defensively when Gordon Gordon agreed that the idea of them together was absurd (before saying that didn't matter, of course), making me believe he really DOES see them as compatible, or certainly at least wants to. Like one of those "his head says one thing & his heart says another" type of deals.
-"Hope & patience." Awwww, Gordon Gordon, I love what a giant shipper you are. Please keep returning to the show with your proper British accent and your diner-food rants.
-And lastly (for this ep anyway, GODDAMN THIS ENTRY IS SO LONG, ha), Brennan at the range! See, Booth, you just needed Bones there with you to help you shoot straight! And a one. . .and a two. . .and a three. . .and a THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!
The Foot in the Foreclosure
-Hank = love. Seriously. He was wonderful, am I right? I loved how similar he was to Booth in his sense of humor, and his teasing Sweets, etc. And I loved how sweet he was to Brennan, and how much he loved Booth, and yeah, just the whole thing. There's just something so special about grandpas. And here's where I'd better move on, before I start getting misty about missing my own.
(also, while on the subject of grandpas though, was I the only one who wanted Bones' made-up grandpa from season one to come up in conversation? I know, I know, I shouldn't hope for so much. But I so wanted Booth to randomly be all, "and speaking of! What was up with that grandpa of yours you said you had, but totally didn't? WTF, Bones?")
-"Wow, you weren't kiddin'!" Ha, Booth! WAY TO TALK TO YOUR GRANDPA ALL MOON-FACED ON THE PHONE EVERY WEEK ABOUT HOW BEAUTIFUL YOUR PARTNER IS. Because you know that's what inspired that comment, let's be real.
-Booth "ice-skating" across the room at the crime scene so as not to disturb the fragile hand. Yes, I know this is random, but it made me giggle. Heh.
-Clark revealing his inner-softie. See? This is what grandparents do to you.
-Hank putting on the vest & "working" at the store. Ha!
-The fat-fetish stuff. Little over the top. But this plotline did result in me being able to see Booth & Brennan listen to Sir Mix-a-Lot, so it all works out. Heh. It only could've been better if they'd have joined Hank in dancing to it. SERIOUSLY, JUST PICTURE IT. Booth singing "Shake that healthy butt!" as he and Bones bump & grind on the dance floor. And then he could like slap Brennan on the ass or something. Hahaha. *dies*
-Brennan in the lab and in the field. They seem to be balancing this pretty well in the last few eps. Thumbs up from me on that front!
-Brennan's Green Shirt of Hotness in the diner. GUH.
-Brennan and her "steel ovaries." Loved her & Hank making Booth uncomfortable. Heh.
-Hank's conversation with Bones in the diner, telling her to hold Booth if he needed it. Aww. I really wish we could see a scene like this. I just really like the idea of seeing Brennan get to be the one to physically comfort Booth for a change with more than something as simple as a hand on the arm. And no for once I don't mean something dirty. Get your minds out of the gutter, people!
-Brennan getting invited by Hank to their family dinners. Straight-up adorable, especially with the addition of Brennan's "I'm invited!" in Sweets' office. Heh. Something about the way she said that line was so cute to me. And seriously, I know Brennan at least has some kind of contact with her father & brother now, but it sure doesn't seem that close even so. I loved how Hank sort of just immediately welcomed her into their little family unit, and how easily she took to the offer & obviously liked it. I hope even though he went back to the senior place at the end that they can continue having moments like that.
-Booth telling Bones to go on a game show, hee. Fyi, my family has been trying to convince me of the same thing for years.
-Bones never having had a nickname as a kid. This made me sad for her. At least she had Tempe, but still. See, if she'd had a grandpa, she probably would've had one better than that. Mine called me "Wachael Mawie," because I couldn't say my letter Rs. Some of the rest of my family still calls me that to this day, but he's the one who started it (and went so far as to sometimes call other people in the family a modified version of that, just to be random & funny, including one of my male cousins. In his case it was "[his first name]-Mawie". Ha!)
-Hank as an uber shipper. I think the show is almost going a little overboard with having others assume Booth & Brennan are in a relationship and/or knowing they're in love the second they see them, etc (I like a dose of that every now & then, don't get me wrong, but not necessarily to this degree or it starts becoming a little predictable & silly). But I'll make an exception for this one, because I really do think Hank has probably heard Booth mention Brennan a million times & it made sense for him to assume they might be an item by now (and to push him in that direction upon finding out they weren't), especially considering how well he knows him.
Plus, there's an actual purpose to him pestering Booth about the subject--other than the usual "we're doing this just to pander to you shippers, but it won't actually affect anything"--because Booth clearly respects & listens to his grandpa. After all, he did compliment Bones on her necklace right after Hank told him to listen to his heart, am I right? (which, by the way, AW!) Now, I'm sure this won't turn into some overnight "Booth finally making a move on Brennan" thing, but it seemed to me a shift in direction at the very least. And one can only hope Hank's words had a similar effect--albeit probably on a smaller scale--with Brennan.
And P.S. Loved how Hank saw right through Brennan's claim at not understanding when he talked to her about regrets & told her not to be scared. HER FACE, PEOPLE. Emily Deschanel is so damn wonderful at expressing things with that face & those eyes, it's like ridiculous. And the fact that he hugged her at the end! Because, again, she's part of the family now! Gah, my heart. Oh, and one more thing: Booth's "What'd he say to you?" and Hank's "None of your business!"<--Hee! *hugs all of them*
AND I'M DONE. HOT DAMN. Do I win a medal or something if it turns out my tv-ramblage is longer than anyone else's on lj? Or at least maybe a cookie? And would you believe I still have two episodes of Parks and Recreation plus this week's Glee to cover (which I have yet to see, because I'm full o' fail)? Not to mention I actually have a decent amount of real-life stuff to talk about too at the moment. BUT TV COMES FIRST. Ha, no not really. I just wasn't in the mood to get into the RL stuff tonight, and really wanted to start getting caught up on my tv entries anyway. So it's all good.
Leaving you all with my Vid of the Day, this time we'll go with a Bones vid to go along with the massive rambling above. This one (created by NatalieJ64) seriously just like takes my heart & squeezes it. Some of you may have already seen it, because I remember it getting posted to 206 Bones a while back, but in case any of you missed it, here you go:
(warning for
keenai: spoilers up to the 5th season premiere. See how thoughtful I am? Hee)
1. Finding & downloading a free photo-editing software online (I lost the basic program that came with Windows due to virus-related good times). Why didn't I think of this sooner? I kept assuming I'd have to purchase something.
