Here's a few Random Bits of Random for you guys today
1. I think this is my favorite new icon. Hee. (credit goes to
nicole_anell). Except now I can't get the song out of my head. Small price to pay!
2. Fantastic news: So, I have this pair of jeans, right? And I had to quit wearing them because they became so tight I was getting muffin-top action (you know, where your stomach rolls over the top of the jeans?). Today, I put them back on and guess what? No more muffin-top! Still a roly-poly stomach, yes, but now the too-tight pants fit! And honestly, I am not even trying that hard. I mean, for crying out loud, I'm having pizza for lunch right now. But the little bit of effort I have been putting in? Is totally paying off. The weight just keeps dropping, little by little. This makes me very happyface indeed.
3. You guys remember how I've said that I love my coworkers? Well, I have a new one and she's a bit weird. And kind of annoying. I guess it was bound to happen eventually, right? The other day one of my cubicle neighbors and I were talking about our sales (bantering over whose were better), and New Girl interrupted like "she can barely even see over the wall and she's kicking your butt!" And okay, yes, I'm short. Very short. I get shit for it all the time and I'm used to it. BUT YOU DON'T KNOW ME LIKE THAT. You haven't earned your "tease Rachael for being 4'10" pass yet, okay? I can deal with people I know messing with me, but it really bothers me when people who are basically strangers to me think they can make comments. Like I'll be in line somewhere just minding my own business & some random person will be all, "Excuse me, I just have to ask. How tall are you?" or "How old are you?" I've just stopped being polite about it, for real. I'll straight-up be like, "Why, how old are you?" And then they shut right the fuck up. Ha.
4. My apartment is such a disaster area right now. In addition to hopefully doing a Dollhouse post tomorrow, I have GOT to spend a few hours cleaning before the people from "Hoarders" show up or something. Okay, so it's not really that bad, but still. I've got shit EVERYWHERE. Dishes in the sink, junk mail on the table, laundry on my bedroom floor, it's pretty much ridic.
5. Is anyone else on my flist watching Parks & Recreation? It's such an underrated little show. The first few episodes were weak, but somehow it turned itself around & now I look forward to it every Thursday. Also, just so y'all know, I am officially signing on as an Andy/April shipper. And possibly a Ron/Leslie shipper, but that one's not for sure yet. I can't decide if I'd really want them together or not. But Andy/April all the way, baby!
6. It is a good time to live in Oregon. The highs here this week? In the fifties, going up to sixty later this week. It may still be rainy almost everyday (or "grainy" as I decided to start calling it the other day at work. Haha. I started saying "gray" and my brain wanted to say "rainy," and it came out "grainy." I figured I'd just go with it), but at least that's all we have to complain about. We haven't even had our usual landslidey good times this winter, because California has taken the brunt of that for us. Thanks, Cali!
7. I turn into such a sap around the Olympics, I swear. I'm like "Aw, group hug, guys! Group hug!" Heh. But it's not just the "world coming together" thing that gets me, it's also the athletes themselves. Knowing how hard they've worked to get where they are, and how happy they must be to have made it, regardless of whether they win. You know looking at their faces that this is a moment they'll never forget. It's lovely.
Also, I got all "Oh Canada! I kinda heart you right now!" during the opening montage tribute NBC did for the country. That was so sweet! The narrator was basically all "Canada and the U.S.: besties 4eva!" Haha. Plus you know I love Vancouver for two other reasons as well: 1. It's pretty much the Canadian version of Portland and Seattle, and 2. It's where X-Files & BSG were filmed! They're automatically cool for that reason alone, really.
And before we wrap this up, three more Olympics-related side-notes:
7a. How beautiful was KD Lang's cover of "Hallelujah"? Gah. You guys know how much I love that song and holy crap does that woman have a voice on her. I had to rewind & watch it twice.
7b. The luge tragedy. That is just so very sad. I'm a bit scared for the people who are going to compete on that track now, although I suppose they must know it's a dangerous sport already. But I can only imagine how nervewracking it'd be to make that turn now. Hopefully they can do something to block off those beams.
7c. On a lighter note: BRING ON THE FIGURE SKATING. HELLS YES. I don't lose my shit to quite the same degree during Winter Olympics as I do the Summer Games, but man oh man do I geek out over figure skating. Love it.
Tonight I'll be going over to my sister's to play with my nephew for a bit & then get some quality auntie time with my niece after I kick the rest of them out of their house. Ha. Hey, I'm paying for them to go to dinner, so it makes it okay. I need some alone time with my niece though, because I don't get nearly as much one-on-one bonding with her as I did Jayden at that age. And while I know there's nothing I can do to make as much time for her as I did him, because back then it was my job (I was the nanny), I still want to make sure we have some special time together. So I figured this would be a nice way to accomplish that while also doing something nice for my sister. Although apparently my nephew really wants me to come to dinner with them. Heh. Aw.
For our Vid of the Day, we've got this vid by
chaila43 that
nnaylime linked me to today, which I instantly knew would have to be rec'd on here. First off, it's set to one of my favorite songs in the freakin' world. Seriously, this song is so gorgeous I want to make out with it. I mean, there's a reason I've used its lyrics in my subject headings here more than once. Secondly, it is perfect for BSG. PERFECT. And I was so thrilled to see someone had finally done a vid with it for that show, especially since as a bonus it's a good vid all by itself even without the song. So yes, thumbs up all around!

Date: 2010-02-13 10:54 pm (UTC)Good weepy: How awesome Canada is.
Sad weepy: The death of the Georgian luger and the Georgian team entering the stadium.
But, um, how awesome were those punk tap-dancing fiddlers? Why can't I live where they live?

Date: 2010-02-15 07:55 pm (UTC)Ooh, that'd be neat. How much will it cost you?
I don't blame you for not wanting to buy a new DVR in that case. At least you can record one thing at a time! Plus you can pretty much find almost anything online anyway, so once you have the fancy jobbie above, you'll be all set.

Date: 2010-02-14 12:28 am (UTC)Also Dollhouse post tomorrow? I should probably stay away... I'm still in spoiler-phobe mode. I haven't gotten my hands on season 2 yet (boo). The last episode I saw was the total utter complete what the gorram frakkin' hell 'finale' of season 1...

Do you mean the finale that aired, or Epitaph One? I only finally saw Epitaph One online a few weeks ago, and gah, it killed me.
I haven't gotten my hands on season 2 yet (boo)
Have you tried looking on surfthechannel.com?

Date: 2010-02-14 10:51 am (UTC)Epitaph One. It's weird, they only broadcast season 1 here, but they did include Epitaph One. And let me tell you, I was not prepared for what I got AT ALL. I spent at least the first 15 minutes going "What? What? Heeeey... WHAT? Noooooo... awwwww."
Have you tried looking on surfthechannel.com? Hmmm getting choppy stuff. But I know where to get it, just need to get past my crappy crappy download limits. Sigh.

Date: 2010-02-14 06:05 pm (UTC)P.S. I love your icon! I will pretend I got the double-meaning instantly too, instead of it taking like three times of looking at it to be like "ooh, FANGIRL, right! Because of the fan, but also because she IS a fan!" Hee. Slooooow.

Date: 2010-02-14 01:56 am (UTC)3. YES. my being short does not give strangers the right to bring it up. ignorance. or people think that you are 'cute'. um, i stopped being cute about 20 years ago.
7a - I adore that song, but I can't listen to it right now, so soon after seeing Laura *almost die*.

Date: 2010-02-14 08:19 am (UTC)Dude, RIGHT? God, people are annoying sometimes.
I adore that song, but I can't listen to it right now, so soon after seeing Laura *almost die*
Hee, aw. I won't link you to the finale tribute vid I have in my youtube playlist for that song, then! Also, no worries, she didn't die, she's just out gathering firewood for her & Adama's cabin! And searching for new places to grow their, um, shall we say *herbs*? Hee.

Date: 2010-02-14 02:07 am (UTC)Omg I didn't know that you're a shorty too! Yay! But omg I totally know what you mean because I'm 4'11". It always bothers me when people either a) mention it incessantly or b) don't know me well enough for me to not take it seriously. UGH PEOPLE.
Oh god, I have a love/hate relationship with the Olympics. THEY'RE AWESOME BUT MY SHOWS DISAPPEAR.
(no subject)
Date: 2010-02-14 08:44 am (UTC)Yep! Although technically I should say I'm 4 foot 10 and a half inches. Ha. But people tend to look at me strangely when I specify the extra half. I'm like, hey, the extra half matters, okay?
Oh god, I have a love/hate relationship with the Olympics. THEY'RE AWESOME BUT MY SHOWS DISAPPEAR
Ugh, I know. On the plus side though, it gives me time to finally finish up the tv posts I'd gotten behind on and then I can check out Friday Night Lights, which I've been hearing about forever. So that's cool. But I still miss my Bones! I suppose it's better though to go two months straight without it than how it was last season when it was like constant mini-hiatuses every few weeks. That was so annoying.
