So, I have a question for you all: spending an entire evening watching youtube vids is totally a valuable use of one's time, right? I sure hope so because that's what I just finished doing. Heh. Oh hi there internet addiction, how are you today?

But honestly, after picking out a birthday gift for my nephew online (I bought him a telescope) & knowing I won't be there to see him open it, I sort of needed the distraction. With that in mind I think it's justified. Wouldn't you all agree?

(I'm just gonna assume you're all obediantly nodding right now)

And because I love you all so much, I'll even share a few of the vids I watched. Obviously, I found many more than this, but I'm going to save the rest for future Vids of the Day so as not to spam everyone. I found some really, REALLY good shit though, so trust me it's taking all my will power not to. Heh.

To narrow things down, I'll do the top 3 vids that gave me joy tonight.

1. First up, some cracky hilarity by jcathm. This song seriously made me laugh so hard, omg. "Sniff this one, it's dead." Hahahaha. LOVE IT.

2. Coming in second, this sweet & lovely cancer arc-centric vid by XFyellowbee. Mulder & Scully, I miss yooooooooou.

3. And lastly, a song to rock the fuck out to. All I can think when I listen to this is, "PLEASE UNIVERSE FIND A WAY TO HAVE MARK SNOW WORK WITH BEAR MCCREARY IF A NEW XF MOVIE IS EVER MADE." Seriously. You know you want this type of epic badassery on the screen when aliens invade.

P.S. For those who haven't seen "The Plan," that's what this song is from (titled oh-so appropriately, "Apocalypse"). It airs during the flashbacks of the attacks on the colonies, which is the one part of that movie I really, really liked. Mmmmdestructionporn. . .(hee)

P.P.S. And for those of you who don't watch BSG (wtf are you waiting for), the lyrics sung here are from the show's theme song--which is what this song expands on--and are from the Gayatri mantra. There are lots of different translations out there that break it down word-by-word, but I like this paraphrase/translation from S. Radhakrishnan the best:

We meditate on the effulgent glory of the divine light;
may he inspire our understanding.

SO PERFECT FOR BSG, I LOVE IT TO DEATH.

*edited to add: and for those of you who'd like the literal translation, here you go:

Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,

Remover of pain and sorrow,
The Bestower of happiness,
Oh! Creator of the Universe,
May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,
May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.

. . .aaaaand I'm spent. Just be glad I held back & saved the rest for later. Heh.

Is that a question that even needs to be asked? Course it is!

I decided to go all day on the 4th of July without turning on my computer, and even though we had people over most of the day, it was REALLY HARD. I tried to go no internet at all, but I did cheat a little and check one thing on my parent's computer.

I could go a day without the computer, but I go through phases with it. Some days I'm all about the computer, and other days I'm all about tv. And some days I don't feel like using either. But whatever phase I'm in, I don't half-ass it. Heh. I'm all in.
