I am in the mood for distractions. I still have over an hour until Southland & Parenthood come on, no one's updating their LJs, I don't feel like cleaning or looking for work, and wah wah blah MEH. Hmph.

Therefore, I turn to YouTube. Music is not going to cut it right now. I need stand-up. For those of you who don't know me well yet, comedy is one of my oldest loves. It wouldn't be a stretch to say it was an obsessive interest during my teenage years/early twenties. I don't keep up with new comics that way anymore--probably because I have too many dang fandoms & such (also because Comedy Central simply doesn't focus on comedians as heavily anymore)--but I still adore the medium. When I'm down, it's something I know I can always turn to.

I thought it'd be nice to share a few of the clips I watched tonight with you all. Maybe others could use the pick-me-up as well? Laughter is physically & emotionally beneficial after all (don't make me bust out the science).

P.S. I fucking love India.

I used to have this entire hour-long set memorized as a 13 year old. It still makes me laugh to this day:

Any of you not yet watching Parks & Recreation--GET ON THAT SHIT, RIGHT NOW. This man is on it & he is always funny. Always.

This made me freaking CRY laughing, oh my God:

I know it seems to be ~the thing~ now to hate Dane Cook, but I first discovered him back in '98--waaaaaay before he was well-known--and I've loved him ever since.

Technically, this one has a trigger warning, but only mildly. It actually makes me feel better (and laugh) every time over my own dark days:

I consider this the unofficial theme song for BSG. Just sayin'.

RIP, Mitch. You are missed.

Aiight, I'll stop here. There are many, many other comics I could include, but that's a good amount of clips for one post (especially since it's not always easy finding old standup on YouTube. If anyone can find Reggie McFadden's Comedy Central Presents bit about the show COPS, for instance? I'd love you forever). Hope you all enjoyed!

OMG BRAIN TWIN. When that Dana Carvey special came out, my little brothers were still toddlers and their penchant for Naked Time was totally a reality (particularly for the youngest). My mom and I used to quote that bit all. the. time. And we still bring it up even now. XD

Have you seen his Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies special? It's more recent and the Reagan Oracle bit he does leaves me in tears every time from laughing so hard.

Slightly edited because I apparently am the Redundant Department of Redundancy.

I watched it today & you're right--that part was funny. I still love the first special the best though. Choppin' broccoli!

I LOVE AZIZ ANSARI. He was so awesome live.

My friend invited me to Dave Chappelle tonight, and I'm so pissed I couldn't make it. BOO.

Oh, God, I would LOVE to see Dave Chappelle live! Is he finally back to comedy full-time now?

I saw Chris Rock many years ago and that was fantastic. I wish I had someone to go see shows with. Marc Maron was here recently & I didn't even know until afterward.

My other fave Aziz bit is the one he does about his cousin Harris. He is just so fucking hilarious.
