This is why I believe Booth knows that, when he *is* ready to let the walls down? He can do so with her. She knows when to shut up & just listen. Doesn't "fix" the fact that someone's different and/or struggling unless it's somehow interfering with others. Just accepts them, observes them, and maybe comments on them if she's feeling all anthropological. Otherwise, she remains silent. She offers her company, perhaps an "I'm sorry" or a "Is there anything I can do?" That's all.
I love her.
Of course he also knows she'll always be honest with him, and that she won't intentionally play games. That matters. But I think the most important thing is that she's not easily shocked. She's respectful. She makes sense of things & remains strong, even in the face of things falling apart. It's exactly what he needed & what he'll continue to need until his life comes back together. Then they can be together for real.
