rachg82: (scully going to oregon)

Sometimes it's the little things that turn one's mood around, even if only temporarily. I was walking up to get some food just now, and the simmering irritation I'd been feeling all day was beginning to change into sad & lonely "I'M ALONE IN THIS WORLD!" type thoughts, when lo & behold a full-grown nutria crossed the road to greet me.

Now, it being night and all, I thought at first it was a mutant hunchback cat that was either, A. wigged by my appearance & about to jump on my face, or B. something that just got hit by a car--hence the creeping slowness & arched funkitude.

Thankfully, it was neither. Still, once I saw what it was, we sort of just stood there & stared at one another for a moment, and then I ran. Ha. "OMG, IT HAS TEETH. IT'S GONNA GET ME." Of course it then ran too, all, "FINE, BE THAT WAY. I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO BRAID FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS WITH YOU, HUMAN."

I turned back around immediately afterward though, like, "NUTRIA! WHY ARE YOU HERE? SORRY FOR THE REJECTION!" Hee. Fight-or-flight responses don't usually end in smiles though, so, hey! Win. It was just so WEIRD.

The best part? On my way home, there was a small group of people gathered around baby nutria (BABY! NUTRIA! Eating grass! Cutecutecute) taking pictures. Not kidding. Hahahaha. Like, I don't know if they'd gotten out of their car or came back from their home or WHAT. But there they were, all, "ANIMALS! WTF!"

I don't blame them though. NUTRIA DO NOT BELONG HERE, OKAY? Like, I saw them in Beaverton a good ten years ago and it was weird then. It's still weird now. They're supposed to be in South America! How'd they get from Louisiana to here! What, did they hitch a ride?! Hee hee.

Ahhh, cracky fun.

Okay, that's all. I just felt like sharing. This is why I need to get back to my Jaunty Woodland Walks--I think I will tomorrow, if possible. Nature amuses me. (Chipmunks! They climb on trees!)

While I'm passing on the typical entertainment of living in Oregon, I'll also give you this clip. Portland is the #1 city in America for people who use bikes as their main form of transportation, so yes, this is accurate. Ha. We have bike parking lots at some of our stores. We have an annual nude bicyclist parade. 'NUFF SAID.

(my fave part? "I don't have a driver's license! I DON'T NEED IT!"<---hahaha, meeeeee.)

*edited to add: oh my God, I just can't stop watching clips of this show (I wish I had IFC, damn't!). SO FUNNY:
