Don't mind me as I spam your flists.
-Does anyone know if there was a new ep of Community tonight? My DVR decided to be wonky & skip out on Parks & Rec, which I know was on, so I'm wondering if it frakked up & missed both.
-
I'm glad I had a heads-up that this was going to be extremely Bones-lite, because it allowed me to go into it not expecting anything.
Overall? Let's take it in sections.
First up--the Finder and his Finder Power Friends:
By himself, I liked the guy that played the Finder, so at least there's *some* potential there. Like, I wouldn't mind if he came back on the show by himself, but I can't imagine tuning into a show solely about him & his sidekicks based on the kind of writing we saw between them, which brings me to…
OMG THE TROPES. The dialogue, characterization, EVERYTHING was so stupid, I was actually laughing (you know how sometimes something is so bad, it's good? Like that. I actually enjoyed it on that level). The scene at the cafe? If you were to type it out, you'd have to capitalize the first letter of every word. It was a Very Important Monologue, basically. Hence the ~music~ that came on in the background. Hahaha. Ohhh, forced drama.
I mean, come on. There's the plucky British sprite who can't pronounce words, but gee wiz is handy with some tools, so y'know she comes through in a pinch! (which is good because the lead always gets in pinches! Boy howdy). Then there's the mysterious Philosophical Black Man (again--capital letters intentional) who, A. ~you don't want to mess with~, and B. can tell you a thing or two (especially if it's spiritual), because if there's anything Hollywood teaches, it's that African American friends are there simply for sage advice & catchphrases. Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Finder!
But the best part was how they *tried* to create depth & just couldn't pull it off. WE OWE HIM OUR LIIIIVES. Dun dun DUN. Hahaha. Of course you do, two-dimensional sidekick with apparently nothing to do other than follow this appropriately well-muscled yet haunted (once more with feeling: dun dun DUN) man around. Why am I not surprised? It's a good thing that bar of his had such booming business, eh? Otherwise who knows how The Finder could've paid his wily team to tag along constantly, sitting around with him all day fighting about fat girls & kittens (that part? Not so funny, really. Killed a bit of my schadenfreude-buzz. A girl smoking? Nah, not depressing enough. Let's add that she's fat. HILARIOUS. Er, not so much).
Actually, no, wait. The best part was the ~LOL!Lesbians. They have low self-esteem, chips on their shoulders, & tattoos! Wouldn't it be funny to ask the straight girl to go kiss the notreallylesbian!chick, just so she can have a moment of gay!panic & be all, "HEY, I'M STRAIGHT! I'M JUST CONFIDENT!" Ahahaha, gay people!~ It never gets old, Hollywood! Keep it up, douchebags!
Thankfully though, nothing in the episode actually got my ire up enough to be all fist-shakey. Bear in mind I use the word "douchebag" very liberally though. Heh. Like I said, I didn't expect anything from the ep, and I enjoyed it like a bad movie (I used to watch crap like "Atomic Train" with Jen & Kevin for fun, so yeah. I know all about enjoying bad movies). So it's all good, particularly since this technically was just an "extra" ep for the season. It doesn't even really count/matter, and at least no one said anything to Brennan to bring out my stabby side this week, so woo for that.
Before I move on though, two more things:
1. "Pigs got people teeth!" Quick! Someone pull out the banjo from Deliverance!
I swear, if I didn't know better, I'd say they packed this episode full of cliches on purpose. I wish they'd gone a little further though & just had the sheriff break out some spoons to play. Yee haw! ("'Round these parts, we solve killins with a good ole fashioned SHIN-DIG. HIT IT, BOYS!")
2. Regarding the so-called "Finder Power"? I won't lie, my first thought was of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. After having seen the ep, I think it would've been even better if he & his sidekicks had dressed up. Like so:

FINDER POWERS! ACTIVATE!
All right, all right. I'm done making fun of the ep now. Ha. Let's talk about the part we all care about now, a.k.a. the actual characters of the show:
-Baby bump! You can totes see it now, especially in that scene in Booth's office where Emily's wearing the dress with the empire hemline. Aw. Bebes. (WTF, estrogen, cut it out)
-Booth didn't get as jealous as he usually does (he called him a "son of a bitch" even before he hit on Brennan, so him saying it afterward isn't clearly indicative of anything), but--despite my guilty pleasure love of fictional jealousy--I'm gonna say that's a good thing. He did do the Alpha Male routine at first, at least, laying claim by jumping in when the dude told Brennan to call him by his first name, so that sort of filled the quota. But I do actually think it's better he was able to react in a non-OH NOES-esque fashion to the "Would you sleep with me?"; it shows he's more secure now. Overly jealous men tend to be easily angry men, and he's trying to NOT be an angerball anymore (props if you get that reference), so it works for me. It also shows he's less possessive (without being less in love), which if extending to his feelings about Brennan overall, is much healthier. Of course I think it helped that he didn't see the guy as a real threat, but still.
I'm not ready to give up my Jealous!Booth from fanfic yet though. You can pry that from my cold dead hands. Heh.
-I'm gonna assume when The Finder called around asking for Brennan's foster parents that we're to surmise she lost the medal once in foster care, not that the show forgot she didn't go into state's care until 15 (rather than the 7th grade), especially because:
-Whoa, Tempe was 11 in the 7th grade? That had to be intentional. Most people in the states are 12/13 at that point. She either skipped a grade or entered Kindergarten young. Either way, that could've created even more of a barrier between her & peers, growing up.
-That picture looked nothing like the ones we've seen of Brennan & her mom up to now. Heh. Oh, television.
-Regardless, Brennan getting the medal & the pic of her with her mom was muy lovely. I cannot deal with a teary-eyed Brennan, y'all. Like, I have to hug my TV, & it's a whole big thing.
Okay, so that's not at all true (hee), but you get the idea. IT SQUISHES MY HEART. Especially when they're happy tears. SHE JUST DESERVES TO BE HAPPY, YO. AND SHE MISSES HER MOTHER. I like when the show does something to sort of ~give back~ to her a bit of what she's lost. I get the same feelings whenever Max shows up & dotes on her.
-Hodgins being a 7. I laughed at this only because I remembered the private detective from season 3 giving him a 7.5. It would've been better if he said the exact same thing though.
-The final scene: Brennan's dress was SO GORGEOUS. Hotttt. Booth looked very nice as well (I enjoyed the matching-ness that was them. I like guys in black. Then again, I also like girls in black. Probably says something about me. Heh). I liked his description of her abilities, and I also thought him putting the medal around her neck was cute. (I'm such a shipper, my thoughts watching it were all, "Aww, he's totally touching her hair right now by doing that." Like, it's just hair, you eternal pre-teen. Calm down.)
Anyway, that's it. I just want to get to the last 4 eps of the season now. Chop chop.
I've already done a Vid of the Day today, but when has that ever stopped me?
This clip makes me laugh. Jill can be a bit biphobic in some of her vids, but I still love her. "A dyke? WILL PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE…and then buy you a beer." Hahaha.
