Love is strong, but it will never win

So, I kind of felt like taking a small lj hiatus over the last few days, but it turns out that time passes really slowly when you're not working & have next to no social life. Hence, two or three days ends up feeling more like five. Meanwhile other people go weeks without showing up. Whatever though, I want to update now, so I'm going to.
This is gonna be a random one. (When is it not?)
-Hulu has season 2 of Arrested Development up for free right now, and I've slowly but surely been continuing my rewatch. Behold, the cracky results:

…Heh. Also, an icon:
Feel free to swipe as long as you give me credit.
P.S. Relevant:
Hee.
-As planned, I bought season 2 of FNL the other night, along with a smoothie. (mmm, smoothies) On a sidenote, there was a nice sunset while I was walking up there, and it gave me the idea of maybe buying some new paints. I've only been doing pastel & charcoal stuff for a while; it might be good to try some painting again. We'll see though. Oils are a pain in the ass to clean up.
Anyway, season 2 was only 15 eps long (because of the 2008 Writer's Strike), so I finished it in the span of two evenings.[/professional marathon champ] As always, I have some observations:
1. Jules is up there with Dawn (from Buffy, obvs) for me when it comes to Whiny Teenager-Induced Urges To Slap. When her mom did in fact slap her, I was like, "YES. SCORE." Haha. *is mean*
2. I ♥ Landry. Also, Tyra. (As separate individuals, I mean, not as a ship -- though I don't mind the ship either.) The murder/cover-up dealio didn't actually bug me like I thought it would. I can see how some would point to it as an imperfect arc, but I expected much worse.
3. I am basically crazy for Eric & Tami at this point. Like, I don't think I can even write about them without being reduced to flaily arms. I just LIKE. THEM. A LOT. Y'know? I mean, HE LIT CANDLES FOR HER & THEN GOT KICKED OUT. Haha. That was the best.
Also: Jealous!Eric. How can you resist? I submit that you CANNOT.
4. I want to hug both Matt & Tim until there's nothing left in them to hug. They really need it, I'm just saying.
5. I wish I could hang out with Matt's grandma. SHE'S ALWAYS HAPPY. I want her to teach me her secret.
6. I cried when Jason Street let himself fall into the sea & then fought his way to the shore. It reminded me of my camping trip last summer & how I took that late night walk after everyone was asleep, then just sat there by the water alone, thinking about jumping in & drowning. His "epiphany," as he put it, realizing that "it would suck to die" (heh. So eloquent), resonated for me. Kind of felt like one of those "I needed to see this" moments.
The only problem of course with speeding your way through a season so fast is that you're left needing the NEXT season equally as fast. Why can't DVDs be free? I ask you. (yes, yes, I know. Netflix. But, meh. For some reason I keep resisting. It's like me & cell phones & tumblr & 10 million other things. I'm resistant to change.)
-I've been playing a lot of online games this week. Text Twist, Addiction Solitaire, and so on. Guess who can type up to 110 wpm with 94-96% accuracy? Oh, yes, that would be me. At least on TyperShark, anyway. Heh. BOOYAH.
-I missed my appointment with the naturopath again. Fail. Now I have to wait until Aug. 9th. Sigh.
-I'm still working on my BSG rewatch recap for the finale, but I decided to split it into more than one entry. That way it's not so picture heavy. As a bonus, that means I'm ready to post the first portion now.
Look at it like an opportunity to join the rewatch…without actually having to rewatch. Heh. Tastes great; less filling!
Daybreak: Part One

-Pretty opening sequence is pretty. This brings up one of the things I like about the finale -- its aesthetic quality/direction & emotional closure. Something as simple as water falling can suddenly become Very Important.

Check it out, it's Adama in a suit. Weird.
-Hey! I noticed something. I've mentioned before how much I enjoy the symbolism of color on the show, especially when it comes to red, white, & black, right? The first time we see Six in the miniseries, for instance, she's in red. The first part we see of Ellen are her red high heels. When Baltar has his first dream in the Opera House, Head Six is suddenly in all-white, & there's a long, red carpet leading to Hera's (extremely) white cradle. ~And so forth~.
In the finale's flashbacks, Caprica Six & Baltar are first shown completely in black (her) & white (him, minus the buttons & footwear):

For some reason Baltar seems to have raided Booth's sock drawer, too.

Roslin looks so pretty here. Even with that outfit. Which, no. Can you not?
-Aw, Kara & Lee's first meeting. Of course he brought flowers. Oh, Lee. You big dumb boy.

…too bad his brother's there to cockblock him. Turns out they have a history of fighting over girlfriends. Why am I not surprised?

-It's funny that "Someone To Trust" (what I think of as a Lee/Kara song) is playing during the scene with Baltar, Six, and his father. It works though. I think it's her actions here--helping his dad--that start his long process of opening up to her & vice versa.
As a bonus:
Gotta have something to listen to while you read, y/y?
-Aaand here comes the tragedy--always right around the corner with this show. I think Roslin's initially calm reaction shows how much she's already been through at this point, having lost her mother to cancer. At the same time, it's easy to see she's in shock, especially with the fountain breakdown coming right after.

I really feel for her in this scene, I have to say. So many relatives, gone in an instant. I think Mary conveyed Laura's emotions really well here. She's strong, and it's hard for her to just ~let go~ (unless she's pushed. "I AM COMING FOR ALL OF YOU" comes to mind), but you can sense how deep the feelings run.
-Coming back to Six & Baltar, we see that she's still only in black, but he's moved on to black AND white. It's like a blending of dichotomies!

-Poor Tyrol. Poor Boomer. POOR BOTH OF THEM.

That scene of him running through their empty Projection House in "Someone To Watch Over Me"? I swear. It just gets me. Theirs are among the saddest endings on the show, imo.

-That memorial wall…I just, okay, let's move on before I get verklempt. I always think of the days immediately following 9/11 when I see it.
P.S. Tell me I'm not the only one who noticed that some of the pictures there have corners.
-Hee, Baltar. "Does everything have to be reduced to your personal feelings about Kara Thrace?" TRUE 'DAT.

"Hey, I know who you are. You're my daughter. Don't forget it."
D'awww. Adama! Such a Care Bear.
-I know there's not a lot about Anders in here, but I can't help it. I don't care much about his storyline. I don't dislike him; I'm just not particuarly interested in him either.
However, that being said, I couldn't resist:

The show's budget must've been running too low for shirts by the end.

Seriously. Heh. Who on Earth ever does ANYTHING that's truly 100% "selfless"? Come on. I'm not sure there even is such a thing. Even if you're only getting a feeling of satisfaction from having helped someone -- that's still giving YOU something too.
-Way to talk to yourself, Lee. I love how characters on TV get to do that all the time, acting like it's normal; whereas, if you do it IRL, you look like a crazy person. As well you should. Heh.

-Yeah, so here's the thing: I actually kinda like the pigeon. WHAT. Don't hate. I think it's the 15 yr old Pretentious Art Student in me. (This is where I pass the fangirl to my right a New Caprican joint & start rambling about what ~wings~ represent. Haha.)

-I love that they *literally* cross a red line in the finale. Remember in the mini, how they had to go "way beyond the red line"? Right. (There's also of course the white salt line in season 3.)
-Oooh, Bear's got the drums kickin' in. That's when you know some shit's about to go down.

-Gulp. *begins to wail inside*
For real though. That shot of her putting on the wig is just -- gah. It's so perfectly sad.
-"This is likely to be a one-way trip!" I like that line. Sums up a lot, really. What these people are willing to do, how they KNOW what they're signing up for. The finality of it all. Regardless of the outcome, they know there's no turning back. It's all in or nothin'.
-Lee being the first to cross over is fitting, I think. He & Adama have come such a long way since the mini, while still having so much unresolved between them. It's realistic in its way.
Caprica Six being there & crossing over too is incredibly powerful, imo. Because, really, think back to how it all began. She was instrumental in the attacks, in the genocide of billions; now she's there fighting alongside her enemy, some of whom STILL hate her. It's not just meaningful for the character, it's meaningful for the whole idea of war, reconciliation, & forgiveness in general. It's the simple, yet deep, things like that on this show that sometimes just blow me away.
-And, finally, we end Part I with tears. When I first watched Daybreak, I think my lip was wobbly right from the start, and I remember giving in & crying for real as soon as Roslin got the news about her sisters & father. This time, I held out longer, but I still couldn't make it past this moment with dry eyes:

I think I may have actually whimpered when she first walked out.
It's just -- SO MANY THINGS, y'know? It's how sick she looks, it's the juxtaposition between healthy flashback!Laura & dying Laura, it's the way Adama helps her along, it's the fact that she dragged herself over there to volunteer when she was so weak (and had such little time left) in the first place, it's the smiles they give each other, it's the little bit of banter, it's the way everyone looks at her & bows their heads in respect as she & Adama walk by (I swear, that part might kill me the most), it's Kara holding her up at the end, it's her journey & how far she's come, it's ALL OF IT.
It's probably one of my favorite moments of the series, hands down. I found it on YouTube, too, so I'll share:
WITH THEIR THEME SONG, TOO. Ahh. And they call each other Admiral & Madam President again! That gets me even during a non-sad scene for pete's sake.
And that's it for now! The second half should come relatively soon. Hope y'all enjoyed. I haven't watched SYTYCD yet tonight, so I'll talk about that later.
For my Vid of the Day, here's a fun & sweetly sentimental tribute to the cast & characters of BSG by Sczep84. This one makes me smile. I love these frakkers so much.
