I'm going to be organized for once & split my rambling into two entries, TV first & RL stuff later (tonight, if I have time. Gotta get back to homework first). Like so:
-I finished season 1 of Breaking Bad (in one night, 'cause that's how I roll), and I really enjoyed it. Some of the cancer stuff made me cry a bit, but in a good way. I was moved. And I kind of already love Jesse Pinkman -- like a lot. Looking forward to season 2 now!
-Per the recommendation of Everyone Online Ever, I watched the first season of Mad Fat Diary last week (twice, actually). It's only six episodes long, is available atm on YouTube, and it's worth watching, especially if you: 1. were a teenager in the '90s, or 2. have had issues with disordered eating/self-image wonkyness/depression/self-injury. It didn't perfectly match my experiences in any of the above areas, but it came close enough to inspire a strong emotional reaction in me, and it's stayed with me since (particularly the finale). I'll definitely check out season 2 whenever it's finally done.
-Parks & Rec was some of the cutest shit ever last week, y/y? (Also, random unpopular opinion time: I ♥ Chris. Deal with it! Haha.)
-Southland: every time I think I can't love Lydia Adams more, a new episode airs & proves me wrong. That woman delivers zero shit & takes zero shit. On another note, I think it's great how well this show handles platonic & professional relationships between cops & detectives. Because y'all know I'm usually all about the shipping, but even I can appreciate a solid friendship between two attractive characters sometimes, sans UST, if it's done in an interesting enough fashion.
Speaking of, though, I still miss the partnership between Cooper & Tang. My fanon from here on out will be that they're BFFs and have drinks together every Friday night.
-The Americans was also super good last week, imo, and the previews for Wednesday have me psyched. I have to say, too, that it makes me nostalgically happy to see all the early '80s fashions on TV. It's nice to see that side of the decade represented for once, since usually you only get to see the shoulder pads & big hair.
-Courtesy of my random, reawakened obsession with Veronica Mars, I've got a fic to rec for y'all: A Strange New Story Every Time, by gyzym. All I'd been wanting lately was a happy-ending, well-paced future fic where Logan & Veronica could reunite as friends (with the sexytimes arriving later, duh), a few years down the road as two complete individuals, minus some of their baggage, while STILL feeling in character, and this delivered that for me. Quite the feat. I still haven't found a fic to satisfy my high-school-reunion trope cravings though, and I have neither the time nor the muse to write one myself. Alas.
On another note, Kristen Bell has pre-reserved her spot on my Hot List this year. I kiiiind of want to do dirty things to her.[/shameless tmi] Hee. And yes, I totally checked to confirm her real age so I wouldn't feel like a dirty creep crushing on a teenaged character. She's actually a year older than me!
-I've managed to find a balance with Bones for now where I fast-forward through most of it & yet still catch bits. That way, if they turn shit around & fix what's been bothering me (unlikely, since the retcon of Brennan's personality a couple weeks ago bothered me on a pretty unfixable level, but YOU NEVER KNOW), I can always hop back in the fangirl wagon without feeling too out of the loop, and if not? I can spare myself some agony before finally giving it up completely. Hopefully. We'll see. It looks like it's probably going to require giving myself free rein to mock episodes as needed, though. So if that's not your thing, skip on by.
As far as my reactions go for the few scenes I DID watch this week,
1. In response to the new Super!Intern:

…seriously. Before Angela even called him a douche (which, thank God she did; it saved me from yelling it at the TV screen), I had the following expression running through my head every time one of his ~brilliant suggestions~ turned out to be wrong:
I do think it speaks to the show's anvilicious writing now though -- what with Pelant being such a Super!Villain, of course we have to have a Super!Intern, too. One who's EVEN SMARTER THAN BRENNAN! What a wacky, novel idea, you guys! Even though Brennan herself used to say Zack was smarter than her. Soooo, yeah. Not really a new concept at all.
2. Re: Brennan being "narrow-minded", yes, in some obvious ways, she always has been. However, in *less obvious* ways, she can absolutely be open-minded, especially compared to Booth. Either way, WE KNOW THIS. It's been run into the ground ad nauseum. Can we for once have a plot point about Booth's shortcomings? Oh, WAIT, I forgot. He's a saintly king among men now. His faults have all been forgotten -- he's the most "moral man on TV", right, HH?

On a more positive note, the previews for next week did amuse me (simply the "dude in a barrel" exchange. It felt natural for once, which B/B haven't been feeling for me for a while).
Okay, that's all for now. If I finish enough homework after this, I might be back for another entry later tonight. If not, then hopefully later this week.
For my Vid of the Day, I'm sharing a Veronica Mars pick (surprise![/not]). This one's by eclipseofmyheart. It's for the whole gang o' characters, and it gives me nostalgic, fuzzy feelings. Enjoy:
