Are you out of your British mind?

Would it be so wrong to spend the whole evening just lounging around all lazy-like in my pajamas? And, if I ask very nicely, can Dewitt from my icon be there too? With her season 1 hair? I mean, my birthday is coming up and all. Okay, so it's 17 days away, but still! I never did get the Power Wheels car I wanted as a kid; I think the world owes me at this point.
All right, all right, I suppose I should do something productive tonight at least. I've been meaning to sort through my stuff so I can throw things out, and now would be a good time to get started on that. It fits with one of the other New Years resolutions I made too, which I forgot to mention here the other day: spend at least ten minutes everyday doing something positive that will improve my home, health, or overall well-being. That can be anything from cleaning to exercising to cooking (vs. eating out), or even simply to accomplish a task I've been procrastinating. I think it's going to become my main resolution actually, because as
keenai talked about in her journal when discussing resolutions, it's both specific & attainable. I'll still make attending more meetup events a resolution too, as well as trying to perform well at my job, but I really like this one because of how achievable it feels and how it would affect my day-to-day life. Plus, as I learned back in my days of cognitive-behavioral therapy, it's always better to set a goal that can easily be judged objectively, such as "I will clean for at least ten minutes a day," vs. something subjective like "I will keep a cleaner home."
Before I go become Cleaning Gal though, I've got some TV Ramblage to share with you all:
Modern Family
This is only the second ep of the show I've seen, but so far I really like it. This week's episode in particular I thought was hilarious. At least I think it was this week's episode anyway. It may have been a rerun, I don't know. But the point is I laughed out loud a bunch of times, and it pleasantly reminded me of Arrested Development in how they treated all the little run-on jokes (for instance the "don't talk black to me" and the thing with the firemen). They didn't do it to nearly the same brilliant degree as AD did, but to be fair this show just started, so they haven't had time to build up layers & layers of inside-jokes & run-on gags like that yet. Even so though, I noticed the similarity & liked it.
The parts that made me laugh the hardest were the scenes surrounding the main guy and his kidney stone (it may be cheap slapstick humor, but him keeled over in pain totally killed me. Heh. Especially with his wife all busy getting dressed up for the firemen) and the two dads trying to get their baby to sleep. Oh man, the part with the chair? "You are not a bear!" Hahaha. Love them!
So yeah, God only knows how I'll fit another show on my DVR every week, but I definitely plan to keep tuning in.
Dollhouse
I've been putting off getting caught up with this show, because I know it's not getting another season (damn you, Fox!) and I wanted to delay the ending as long as possible. I finally caved last night though and watched a few episodes on my DVR. Still not fully caught up as I have both last week's two-parter & this week's ep still waiting for me, but that still leaves me several weeks of material to ramble about here now:
-Senator Wesley (that's how I think of him anyway, hee) is a doll! I did NOT see that one coming.
-Summer Glau! I never got into Terminator, and I've still never watched Firefly (I KNOW, I fail), but I loved her on Dollhouse. Her scenes with Topher were so fabulous; I was sad when she turned out to be crazy because his crush on her was so cute. Also, I could NOT get over how great the actor who plays Victor did impersonating him as Doll!Topher. That was freaking hilarious. "Glasses?" "On a chain!" "FOR THE WIN!" Haha. I loved that part so much I had to icon it, for real:

Hee.
Also, just for the hell of it, here's another icon I made for the show (from the Sierra-centric ep a few weeks back):

Gah, that scene. Kills me.
But anyway, back to the review/recap:
-"She totally went all cylon on me!" Ha! Oh, Topher, you big nerd. I heart you.
-The 3 month time jump. WTFWTF. Heh. I can roll with it though. Afterall, BSG jumped ahead a whole year with the New Caprica arc, and I didn't mind that. Three months in comparison is nothing. Especially since--as with BSG--I can see why they did it.
-Adelle no longer being the boss and having to deal with those old jerkwads telling her what to do. This made me v. sadface for her. I kept wanting to shout "Kick their asses, Dewitt! Throw 'em in The Attic!" Heh. Seriously though, I just kept waiting for her to break out the badassery & go all HBIC on someone, and by the time she finally did I was like "YESSSS." Hee. Although I still wasn't able to tell if she's simply working with them & biding her time until she can take the whole place down (this is what I'm hoping for) or if she really has fully given up on her conscience & taken their side. In other words: is Joss pulling an Angel circa season 5 here (i.e. working with the evil bosses, but only long enough to open up a can of epic whoop-ass in some grand fashion) or is Dewitt going to turn out more like Lilah (whom I also loved, btw), who obviously had a conscience but so often had to put that aside out of self-preservation? I mean, Dewitt did say she'd moved past "chivalry" for exactly that reason.
Even so though, I still have this feeling she's holding something back, and is going to protect the dolls in the end. That's my prediction/hope right now at least. I realize it might be more realistic for her to look out only for herself when the shit hits the fan--especially considering the dark nature of the show--but I loves me my Dewitt & I want to see her be a hero in the end. Of course that means she'd probably die though, knowing Joss. Heh. Damn you, Whedon!
-"There is a me. This is me." I thought that part was interesting. Who is Echo now? Is she just a combination of her different imprints? Is she still partly Caroline? Or something even deeper & more innate? What does it all say about the nature of the soul and one's identity? If she's given back her original personality, can it even be the same? Or will Echo still remain? Should she even want to reclaim her old personality in the first place?
-". . .and at least seven times gay." Ha! WHY DIDN'T WE GET TO SEE THIS ON OUR SCREENS? Stupid Fox! I guarantee if the show had gone on for a third season, we probably would've. I remember Joss saying he expected at least some of the plotlines to have a queer element when the show first started. And P.S. of course my immediate reaction to that was "awesome, and can we please have Sarah Michelle Gellar guest star?" ~You do the math~. Heh.
-Topher messing with Adelle, all "Who is it?" Hee! God, I love the two of them together. So much so that I might even ship it a teeny tiny bit. Perhaps. A little. Not reallybut kinda. Hee. Is that weird? He's quite a few years younger than her, and he's her subordinate, and it'd probably be super weird to see them together anyway, but I can't help at least consider it. They're just so much fun together, and there seems to be an odd kind of chemistry there sometimes. I don't know. It's weird, isn't it? Heh. Like, it's one of those things where you think it and you're all "No! That'd just be strange. . .or would it?" Ha. Seriously though, I'm mostly kidding, but I do love their scenes together for real. I swear I'd watch a spin-off of just the two of them. Which, omg, come to think of it is like the best idea ever. Just picture it: the two of them room-mates in some zany Odd Couple-style sitcom, and she'd be all getting mad at him everyday for leaving his Star Wars figurines all over the living room (because you know he'd have them), and then he would make it up to her by getting her drunk & asking her to play Rock Band with him, which she'd totally kick ass at. I NEED THIS TO BE A REALITY, YO. SOMEONE MAKE IT HAPPEN.
-Sierra & Victor having to be brain-wiped. Heh. That was cute. Those little lovebirds.
-"Are you out of your British mind?" Heeee. See why I love them?
-"I rule the house." With the music! And the slow-mo! Gah, HBIC!Dewitt, welcome back. But you hurt my heart a little with your slapping Topher, yo. Perhaps later the two of you could play a little Rock Band to make up? Hee.
-Alpha. So glad to see his crazy ass back. And I find it interesting how the show seems to be playing with the question of who's more evil, him or the dollhouse. The obvious answer would be him, what with the strapping bombs to people's chests & cutting up their faces and all, but at the same time the clients and owners of the dollhouse also take advantage of people when they're at their most vulnerable, creating an environment where things like what happened to Sierra can occur. So while their crimes are of the more morally ambiguous variety, their hands are still dirty. That doesn't excuse what he's doing of course, but it makes him a more interesting villian at least. Plus the actor's great, which helps too.
-Speaking of Alpha though, why did he go so crazy & homicidal when Echo didn't, especially after he dumped all those extra imprints in her? I'm not sure I understand that one. Also, why doesn't he have the headaches too? I think I'd have to go back & rewatch the show again to remember why, but if one of you has an explanation, please feel free to share.
-"So she's a serial killer?" "Only a little bit." Hee. I bet that was a Joss Whedon line. I bet the cylon reference was too, come to think of it.
-"I'm obsolete! This must be what old people feel like. . .and Blockbuster." Heh! Once again, if that's not Joss, it's gotta at least be him rubbing off on the other writers.
-Patton Oswalt's character returning. I was happy to see he'd moved on and wasn't using the dollhouse anymore. I liked the conversation between him and Echo, when he acknowledged that he knew she wasn't Rebecca (his dead wife), and she told him he'd never get over it (his grief). It would just become a part of him. Kind of a parallel to Echo's experiences in a way, if you think about it.
-Ballard & Echo. I'm glad he didn't sleep with her during those three months. I would've been really disappointed in his character if he had. I haven't been able to get too into their 'ship though, because I feel like he's been in love with her before he even really knew her, and partly out of an "I've got to save her!" desire, and I'm not sure how healthy that is. But I also think he knows that, and that's why he's resisted it. To be fair too, the more time goes on, the more Echo becomes her own complete person, and I think that's really what Ballard wants at the end of the day. So if she takes down the dollhouse & regains her original memories (regardless of whether Echo & the imprints remain) and they still have feelings for each other? Then I think I'd be cool with them hooking up. But in the meantime I'm glad they don't go there. Although I did enjoy their sexy training session. Heh.
-"C'mon, Adelle. Move your ass. We can hug it out later." Mmm, how about you hug it out right now, Echo? Remember your "at least 7 times gay" reference? Hee.
-The "anyone can be imprinted" plotline developing. This is when I start getting really bummed out that the show didn't get better ratings. It could've gone so many places with that.
-ALPHA WIPING BALLARD'S BRAIN & IMPRINTING HIMSELF WITH HIS PERSONALITY, OMG. And yes, that DID require the capslock. I thought for a second they'd killed him completely. With any other show I'd be like, "no way, he'll be fine," but with Joss? You never know. Heh. I'm sure they'll track Alpha down though & take Ballard's mind back. They have to, because I know Ballard's in that future-set "Epitaph 1" episode from the season 1 DVDs (which I still haven't seen, but which I know a little about). And I doubt that'll be because they've imprinted him with a whole new personality or something. But still, that was a definite OMG moment for sure.
And that's about it! I am so, so tempted to go watch the next few episodes on my DVR now, especially because the previews for the next one looked AWESOME. But I need to go spend at least ten minutes cleaning so I can keep up with my resolution. Then I have dishes & dinner. But once that's done? IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DOLLHOUSE, YO. BEST BELIEVE. Heh. Even though that means I'll be that much closer to the ending, which sucks. *pouts* How am I supposed to go on without this pretty face on my tv every week, I ask you:

Waaaaaaaaaant.
*Ahem* Okay, I'm back now. Heh.
As always, here's the Vid of the Day. Today's pick is a clip from Supernews, which is an animated series on Current that takes a satirical look at pop culture, technology, relationships, and politics. This clip deals with Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and is pretty much awesome. "Just give me the damn thing, I've got shit to do!" Haha. Love it.
ETA: I just realized that vid is probably geo-locked because it's on hulu. So if any of you non-Americans want to watch it, please let me know & I'm sure I can probably find a copy of it on youtube or current.com to embed.
