Effing Christ, my upstairs neighbors are being super loud lately. It's like they're playing catch with furniture or something. And missing. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. Every other minute. I don't even get it.

(of course it doesn't help that the walls are literally thin enough for me to hear one of them vomiting at the moment -- seriously)

ANYWAY, who's in the mood for some meme-osity? I won't be posting my Year in Review or 2011 Soundtrack until it's closer to the end of December, but [livejournal.com profile] bibliodragon recently shared a "first posts of the month" meme, and I thought that looked just random enough to be fun.

January
"When they tellin' you that you can't, you shouldn't, you won't, tell 'em this, tell 'em this"

February
"Sunlight on a Broken Column"

March
"Uh-oh, there goes that word again"

April
"I blame you for the moonlit sky"

May
"If he made me in his image, then he's a failure too"

June
"I come by it honestly"

July
"You'll have to shout even louder"

August
"Grab your brush & grab your rollers"

September
"I deal with the real, so if it's artificial let it be"

October
"No one remembers Blackula"

November
"Everybody stop! Let's acknowledge that the chief is wearing leopard print."

December
"To look life in the face"

Also, I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] sonneta today for another meme:

The rules:
1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves in their journal.
2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
3. You have to choose 11 people to tag.
4. No tag backs.

Here are the questions she gave me:

1. What would you want to eat if you could have any type of food (from anywhere) delivered to you for free?

Every pastry/sugary treat showcased on The Food Network ever. In this hypothetical world, I'd be able to eat as much as I want, of whatever I want, without getting sick or turning into a giant blueberry Willy Wonka-style.

2. Do you prefer fiction or non-fiction?

I really love memoirs, and I'm more apt to get excited over them (plus observational humor/essays) than most fiction; however, I also appreciate many of the classics, as well as poetry, modern novels, and the occasional fanfic. My favorite/most respected author of fiction is probably Virginia Woolf, by a slim margin.

3. Do you like to paint your fingernails and/or toenails, and if so, what color(s) do you most
like to paint them?

Not really. I went through a phase for a while during my older teen years where I did (often with only a clear polish, even then, and sometimes a subtle peach or red. In middle school, though, I regularly painted them a pastel blue, dark purple, etc), but I grew up playing violin--meaning I had to keep my fingernails as short as possible--so I've never been used to growing them out intentionally or making a big fuss out of them. I'm pretty minimalist with my appearance in general.

4. What's your favorite TV show currently airing & why?

Nghh, that's so hard. I'm really looking forward to Southland coming back, I find myself getting excited for Rizzoli & Isles now every week, and I uber enjoy Psych, Parenthood, Community, and Parks & Rec. But though I've been feeling more meh about it as of late, I think I'd still have to go with Bones, because I'm still obsessed with it enough to write/read fanfic, go on communities almost every day (even if only to lurk), and daydream about its characters when I'm bored. Booth & Brennan get it on in my mind a lot -- just sayin'. Ha.

5. If they made a movie of your life, who would you want to provide the soundtrack?

OMG, sonneta, you know me so well to give me a question like this. Heh. Such torture. Can't I just say a collab between Bear McCreary & Philip Glass?

6. In said movie of your life, who would you cast as yourself?

Easy: Janeane Garofalo. She's petite like me, talks in a similar manner (if maybe slightly snarkier), and I used to get compared to her all the time in high school. Well, and Daria, heh. But she's animated.

7. Which character from the Baby-Sitter's Club do you most resemble or identify with?

Yeah, so, here's the thing -- I never read those books. I know. WTH. But I was busy reading Fear Street & Scott O'Dell & Sweet Valley High/University/etc.

If I had to pick a character from the Sweet Valley 'verse, though, I'd probably say Elizabeth.

8. Do you like ice in your cold drinks?

Rarely. I usually don't bother with ice unless I'm making a smoothie, pouring a soft drink at a fast food place or what-have-you, or am super hot & it's the summertime or something.

9. What was your favorite trip - where did you go & what did you do?

This is a toughie as well. I guess I'd go with my trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It was with family, but my sister and I mostly ditched our mom & stepdad while we were there, and I got to go snorkeling & ride lots of boats (I have a fondness for boats), and lie around on the beach all day eating fajitas & sipping on ridiculous vacation drinks. It was pretty much good times.

10. What was the last piece of (non-junk) mail you got?

A package of chocolates (with a card) from [livejournal.com profile] crystalcazzie. The chocolates were shaped like little Christmas Trees!

11. Do you prefer to be the driver or the passenger?

Ha, gee, lemme think. Um, passenger? I kinda don't drive.

And now I'll tag the following people:

[livejournal.com profile] a2zmom, [livejournal.com profile] bloodwrites, [livejournal.com profile] careyleah, [livejournal.com profile] crystalcazzie, [livejournal.com profile] dabhug, [livejournal.com profile] huh920, [livejournal.com profile] hurryupslowly, [livejournal.com profile] limone1, [livejournal.com profile] only_more_love, [livejournal.com profile] sumpta, [livejournal.com profile] tempertemper.

Here are your questions:

1. If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
2. What's your biggest vice?
3. What's your favorite game? (board game, card game, video game, doesn't matter)
4. Being a copycat here: If a book were written about your life, who--other than yourself, living or dead--should be the author?
5. We're having a sleepover (grown-up, schmown-up); what's the first thing we do together?
6. What's the best/worst thing about the town or country you grew up in?
7. What was your yearbook quote for your senior year of high school? If you didn't have one, what should it have been?
8. What's your most overused word?
9. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
10. What's your biggest pet peeve?
11. Do you have a recurring dream? If so, what do you think of its significance?

Moving on, I finally attended an ACA meeting again yesterday & even went to lunch with some of them after. I kinda wish I hadn't done the latter though, just because of the money involved + this one lady who kept saying things that bugged the CRAP out of me. Not ACA-related, but more so society-related (hence my subject heading today -- it's from Lewis Black's bit about hearing something so stupid & senseless that you get an aneurysm from it, because you just. can't. let it. go. "If it weren't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college!" Haha). But it tainted the day regardless. Even so, there were a few thought-provoking things I got out of the meeting itself, so that's good. I've had a lot of conflicted feelings about the program & some of the regulars there in general circling my mind ever since though, and I'll probably just have to hash that out with my counselor. The "Thought Train" strikes again, oy.

On a way off-topic note, I read this week that Leverage will be set in Portland for its upcoming fifth season. They've already been filming here for a while, but the show itself was supposed to be set elsewhere. It'll be fun to see how they explain the move within the confines of the plot, as well as what kind of stuff they do with future episodes here. I got a kick out of seeing a bar/grill I knew in a recent ep as it is, heh.

Finally, I'm almost done with my show meme. Only one more entry to go after this.

Gilmore Girls

I'm just giving up on trying to pick the ~perfect~ three introductory eps & just going with ones I like, ha. THIS IS HARD, OKAY.

"That Damn Donna Reed" (season 1)
"Forgiveness and Stuff" (season 1)
"The Lorelais' First Day At Yale" (season 4)

Similarly, for vids I'm simply going to offer one fanvid and then two random-yet-memorable clips and then silently judge you if you don't choose to give the show a try, because ohh how I still love it after all these years.

1. Rory's graduation speech (embedding disabled here, which was also the case with about a thousand other clips I wanted to include, but now I'm tired of searching through them, so frak it)

2.

3.

My So-Called Life

One of my favorite series of all time, and it only lasted one season. I basically never get tired of rewatching it; and it looks like most, if not all, of the eps are up on YouTube, too, so what excuse do you have NOT to watch it? Note how I'm actually linking to these eps, even.

And as far as my choice goes for which three to share, you really can't go wrong with any of them. I'm picking these in particular though because, A. the first will draw you in, B. the second will take you back, and C. the third will stay with you later.

-The Pilot
-World Happiness Dance
-So-Called Angels (P.S. I rewatch this one every December, so it's fairly appropriate for the season)

*ETA: I totally almost posted this without remembering to share three vids for the show, too. Heh. Linking to the eps confused me. But, really, can't this sort of count as three vids since, y'know, they ARE vids in this case? Not just episodes? I'm going to say so, because I can. And because looking up vids for this show is muy difficult. There aren't that many out there.

I'm glad that the ACA meeting was somewhat useful, even with the annoying people.

This is so the measurement of whether a show is your number one still isn't it? Are the characters boinking in my mind? Yup. LOL. You're so not the only one with BB ;)

Ooh meme! I am going to answer these - I have a few to answer from around LJ so perhaps I'll combine them into one big post then come up with some Qs of my own - otherwise I'll have to come up with like 44 Qs or something and I'm not that clever ;)

Glad ACA meeting went OK. Awesome that you went - also cool that you went to the lunch, even if one person was a pita ♥

OMG! I wonder if that's some kind of new sport? Because my neighbours are playing it as well.
HATE. I CAN'T EVEN.

And of course: Gilmore Girls love forever. ♥♥♥♥♥

I loved Gilmore Girls when I first watched it but I've kinda gone off it recently. I blame the latter seasons. I'm not sure why they decided that having Lorelai and Rory fight a lot was a good idea, but they made them both behave quite horribly in order to do so. It's not much fun watching a TV show where you kinda hate both the main characters.

My So-Called Life is one of those shows that I keep meaning to get the DVDs of and watch. I've heard lots of good things about it.

Most shows I'm into that lasted more than a few seasons eventually went south, so I'm used to it. Now, I just look back & remember the stuff that I liked. Or try to anyway. Heh.

*eta: Oh, AND -- that's one of the good things about My So-Called Life; it didn't last long enough to go bad! It's like a perfect, timeless gem.
