1. Just made a rice protein smoothie with those blueberries I bought at the Farmers Market, plus added rasberries, bananas, honey, & a combo of rice & almond milk. It was pretty much the biggity biggity bomb. Just so y'all know.

2. It's about time for an icon meme, methinks. Taken from [livejournal.com profile] torigates:

3. Since tomorrow is Labor Day, I won't be working. As for today, I worked 6 am - 1 pm instead of the normal 6:35 am - 5:05 pm Sunday shift I would've had. It's amazing how short a seven-hour day feels when you're getting used to ten. Unfortunately, I won't get holiday pay since I don't qualify yet, but I'll be working a full day on Tuesday & a half-day on Wednesday to make up for it. I'll even get something like two hours of overtime pay, technically. I'll probably exhaust myself in the process, but whatevs. I really need money. Currently, I have something like thirty-odd dollars to last me the next two weeks. GOOD TIMES.

4. Speaking of work, behold my favorite customer quote of the day (re: the increasing absence of pay phones on the streets due to everyone getting cell phones): "I mean, where's Superman gonna change his clothes?"

Also, gotta love the 90 year old woman I helped get signed up today, who, when asked if she had an email address, was like, "What's that?" Cue me answering, "Email? You know, on the internet?" And her shouting (they always shout, haha), "Internet?! What?" And me again, like: "Um, internet…like on a computer?" And then her final response of, "OH, I DON'T HAVE ONE OF THOSE. I'M LUCKY IF I CAN FIGURE OUT MY TV, HONEY." Hee!

FYI: I heard yesterday that the oldest customer we have is 106. Apparently he's pretty with it, too. *106* (it bears repeating). I can't even. He would've been three when the Model T came out. And he has a cell phone before I do. Haha.

5. A lot of my flist has been doing this, most recently [livejournal.com profile] keenai, so I'll jump on the bandwagon. Here's my Fall/Winter TV Schedule )

That's all for tonight. For my Vid of the Day, let's celebrate the upcoming return of Community this month (not to mention season 2 coming out on DVD) with some awesome Abed quotes, edited together by tvgirl17:

ETA: I can't resist:

rachg82: (here for laura)
-I'm feeling especially sleepy & lazy right now. What I'd really like to do is plan an evening in front of the TV with pop & snacks, but nooo.

-There's an ACA meeting this afternoon, but there's also one on Monday evenings. I'd have to get ready in a hurry (and pay for a cab) to go to the one today without being late, so I'm kinda tempted to do the Monday one instead. Especially because public transit is more convenient on weekdays.

-I do however want to go somewhere today. I just don't want to rush. I'm thinking I'll make myself a sandwich for lunch, take a shower, and then bus it down to Portland. I can make a pitstop at Forest Park to finish [livejournal.com profile] gina227's photo meme question from way back & then take care of [livejournal.com profile] keenai's by hitting up Voodoo Doughnut. The one downtown is still closed for renovation, but dear God have I been craving their donuts something fierce lately, so I don't even care--I'll go to the NE one. And I can excuse the gluttony by having taken a walk. TADA.

-[livejournal.com profile] teachlikeroslin and [livejournal.com profile] scifi_mel have created their own Hot 25 lists as well, in case some of you missed them & would like to see. You can find them here & here.

-Big-ups to New York, y'all. I'm sure you've all heard the news by now, so I'll just say this: I really needed a big smile this week & they delivered.

-Many of you on my flist are bemoaning the late Fall premiere of Bones this year & wondering how you'll fill your time. Fortunately, you have me, the TV-obsessed oompa loompa who never tires of pimping new shows. May I suggest any of the following? )

-I worked on my fic a bit more last night. It still feels a lot like chipping away at a huge block of granite, but sometimes that's just how it goes. At least there's progress being made, albeit incredibly slowly. I guess on the bright side the longer summer hiatus means less of a hurry for things like this.

-I put a temporary halt to my BSG rewatch after my uncle's death (being at the end of s4, I think most of you will understand why), but I think I'm ready to jump back into it now, once my TV's working again that is. I only have a few eps left. Pretty sure the finale's gonna kill me, but I don't mean that in a bad way. It'll just be emotional because of the subject matter.

Anyway, I'm gonna get going now, before I can convince myself that napping would be a better way to spend the rest of the day.

For my VotD, here's an appropriately themed song:

rachg82: (Adama/Roslin Oath kiss)
Apologies for the lengthy absence, folks. I've been duelling with a fail!body over the last week or so (seriously, body, is the period from hell with the migraines and the stomach-crazyness really necessary? And what's up with the cold? Didn't you just get over a cold? This is some kind of underhanded ploy to make me eat more fruits & veggies, isn't it? ISN'T IT? I'm onto you, immune system!), and that plus not getting enough sleep and trying to get back in the groove of my normal position at work = a tired, non-verbose Rach. That, and I was actually busy the last couple weekends, which is often when I let loose with the wordyness here. But I'm back now, and feeling like strappin' on the ole ramblin' boots, so here we go.

Real life shiznit, how I spent my Halloween, and a little miscellaneous BSG-rambling (of the non-spoilery variety) )

Look who's caught up with Mad Men! )

Glee )

I think it's about that time for another installment of TV-rambling, don't you? I'll even throw in a tiny bit of real-life blathering, and a TV Halloween Funtimes Poll! (Except not in *actual* poll format, because I'm full o' fail and haven't taken the time to learn how to make lj polls yet. Heh.)

Real life stuff )

All right, guys, I've got a mission for this entry. I have exactly one hour before I need to get ready to go shopping with my sister this afternoon, and I'm going to test myself to see if I'm able to finish an entry in that amount of time. I keep writing and deleting what I write lately (hello, perfectionist), causing me to take a million years to finish one silly entry, and it's just gotta stop. So. Today I get one hour, and if this entry has typos or isn't perfect, well then so be it.

Today I'll be delivering the post-Bones squeeage I promised, plus give some quick comments on other shows I watched this week. *sets timer* It's go-time, yo! Hee.

Real quick first though: Have you guys heard that there is going to be a Sweet Valley High movie? I got a little too excited when I heard that, not gonna lie. Ha. I was so into those books as a kid though, like really. Not only did I read the high school ones, I also read the books about them as little kids, and the university series (which I was completely obsessed with, btw). I even watched the short-lived tv show for crying out loud. It was totally Fandom-Crazy Rachael, Version 1.0. And I'd be embarassed by this admission, but I don't have nearly enough shame for that. Heh. Seriously though, who here from their late twenties and older didn't read those books? Everyone I knew as a kid was into them. So yeah, I'm sure the movie will completely suck, but I will totally be at least renting it. Heh. Especially if they set it in the late eighties/early nineties time period it was meant for, so we can all revel in the cheese-tastic Valley Girl drama & fashions. Which they'd better, because I can't imagine my Wakefield twins with cell phones and shit. It just wouldn't be right.

This week in television: Bones, House, Glee, Dollhouse, and Mad Men )

Ugh, I feel like crappity crap. The cold I've been fighting to resist all week finally took hold today. I do not appreciate this, immune system!

I was going to go shopping today too, man. Stupid swine flu (which I've decided to blame it on, because it sounds more exciting, hee) *grumbles* Oh well, I'll just go shopping next weekend or something. I did get to at least see my sister & nephew/niece briefly though. They came over so I could give my sister a check to pay for a coupon book for his school. And Isabella wandered around my apartment, getting into everything & moving my remotes into mysterious places. Hee. She kept letting out these long rambles of baby gibberish at the things in my apartment too. I think she was having a conversation with my food pantry, no lie. Haha. Also? She understands the word "no" now, and cries when she hears it. Kid learns fast!

Oh, and to add to your daily dose of cute, I give you this moment with Jayden:

Me: Jay, how are you feeling? I heard you had a fever yesterday. Are you all better?
Jayden: Yeah
Me: Aw, I'm sorry you weren't feeling good, though
Jayden: *shrugs* It was just a fever. They don't do anything to you. You just sit around and drink Gatorade.

Hee. I love hearing kids' perspectives on things. You just drink Gatorade! Like, no big.

Anyway, I was going to do another BSG post tonight, but my brain sort of stopped working around halfway through this entry, so I set it aside to come back to later. In the meantime, here's the rest of what I wrote, which includes some quick reactions to other misc. shows (Glee, So You Think You Can Dance, etc) and a work-related tidbit.

And away we go )

As promised, here is my entry about the time I spent with Jayden and Isabella this weekend. And I know I never got around to writing about the babysitting I did like a month ago, but I can at least sum it up thusly: that day was spent following Isabella as she crawled around the house looking for stuff to get into (she is like a danger magnet, I'm not even kidding) while playing endless make-believe games with Jayden, ranging from police officers to archeologists to construction crews to astronauts to aliens. We get uber-creative with our make-believe games, let me tell you. Not to mention the conversations I had with Jayden all day, which are always entertaining. As an example:

Jayden: Let's go to the planet Pluto!
Me: Okay, but Pluto isn't a planet anymore.
Jayden: But why?
Me: I don't know, it just isn't. It's too small or something.
Jayden: *looks confused*
Me: Tell me about it, kid. Sigh. Poor Pluto.

We actually have conversations like this. Heh.

Because last weekend is more fresh on my mind though, we'll just talk about that for today. I am way overdue for a post talking about my nephew and niece so better to talk about one day than none. Especially considering the hateration I've been getting from [livejournal.com profile] dosidella regarding my lack of auntie rambling as of late. Heh. So, Jen, this one's for you.

(Also, I'll give some quick reactions to my first viewing of Mad Men, and of course a Vid of the Day. This time it'll be technically two vids though. Both are courtesy of Current TV, and crack me up everytime I watch them.)

My nephew and niece are cuter than yours )
rachg82: (Sine qua non)
I felt like I was PMSing today, but I don't know why. I was vaguely moody & irritable all day (I'm not anymore, thankfully). Kept having to remind myself not to be snippy with my coworkers everytime they'd interrupt me with a question about something. Probably just a Monday thing though (hence the Office Space subject heading). I have a hard time sleeping well on Sunday nights, because I always let my sleep schedule get all wonky over the weekend despite my plans to the contrary, and then spend Monday all tired. I should really quit doing that.

That reminds me, I should watch Office Space again sometime. I love that movie so much that I can't believe I don't own it. Give me back my stapler! Haha. Best work movie ever.

Changing the subject, I'll have you guys know that I'm finally going to jump on the Mad Men bandwagon. I set my DVR for it and everything. Now I can finally know what people on my flist keep raving about. As if I need another new show to get obsessed with! Heh.

In other happy news, the ants are finally gone from my apartment (THANK GOD!), and guess who started walking yesterday on her very first birthday? That would be my niece! Way to decide to make that developmental leap on a memorable day, kid! I spent the afternoon with her on Saturday (and spent time with Jayden as well), so I plan to post an entry about that this week as well. It's actually mostly already written, but this entry would just be way too long if I included it here so I'll probably put it up tomorrow night. In the meantime, I've got some more Battlestar Galactica rambling to force upon you all (this time about the episode "A Disquiet Follows My Soul," i.e. the episode where my 'ship finally lands, a.k.a. bow chica bow wow, haha). This time I'm even including a little picspammy goodness, because I hear that's what all the cool kids are doing these days and because I am a total follower. Hee. And also because I cannot talk about this episode without including pics, I just can't.

Lastly, I'll also include a Vid of the Day, this time for the X-Files. I am loving this whole Vid of the Day thing. Finally I have use for my hundreds of favorited YouTube videos! Heh.

More thoughts on BSG, a mini-picspam, and an X Files vid. I am full of fandom joy, people )
